The Skyhawk came with the 2.0 OHC engine, NOT the 2.5, the oil filter is located under the intake manifold on the passenger side. Take off the passenger side front tire, and look through there, you will see the oil filter.Where is an oil filter on a 1989 Buick skyhawk?
Buick Skyhawks also were available with a 2.0 OHV engine. The OHC engines were more problematic. Report Abuse
Where is an oil filter on a 1989 Buick skyhawk?
Assuming you have the 2.5 litre 4-cyl engine... The oil filter is actually inside the oil pan (silly I know). If you look at the oil pan, in the same location as the drain plug, you will see what looks like a 3 or 4 inch diameter drain plug. The whole assembly unscrews. The problem you often encounter is that the nut you remove it with is small, about the size of a regular drain plug, but it is turning what infact is a 3 or 4 inch wide plug. Given that, the nut strips. On older vehicles, you may have to chisle out the housing if the nut strips %26amp; replace the whole thing. Sometimes very large adjustable pliers (channelocks) can grab the edge of the housing and you can loosen it that way if the nut strips. Good luck!
