Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?

No it is not ok. By not changing your oil filter you do what is known as adding clean water to a really dirty bucket. When you add the new oil and start the car, the oil will be contaminated with the same gunk as the previous oil. This gunk usually builds up on the important parts of the engine and clogs up parts are need oil flow to keep the engine lubricated. Soon after due to the high temperatures and moving parts, pieces of metal do flake off and go into your oil. Some engines have drain plugs with magnets that collect the metal filings. But Again if you don't change your filter those filings tear right through the filter and no protection anymore to engine ( this means Kaboom later on to the engine). Not only that the gasket from the oil filter is not made to last long periods (so expect a leak on maybe your second or third time around using the same filter). Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?
It's ill advised. Oil filters are too small as it is these days. Why recirculate filthy oil through a loaded tiny oil filter. You seem to forget that oil filters have two internal valves. The anti-drain back and oil by-pass valves. When filters plug up the bypass valve opens and you get *no oil filtration at all. The anti-drain back valve holds pressureized oil to the oil pump from the time you shut the motor down till the motor starts up again.

Why go el-cheapo. Spend an extra $5.00 for an AC-Delco, NAPA ( made by Wix) Carquest (made by Wix) Motorcraft (made by Purolater) Denso, Purolator Gold by name, and Wix by name. They're all readly avalable. Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?
No. The filter is full of dirt, grime and gunk and cannot filter new oil effectively. It would be better to just change the filter and not the oil. Spend the extra $5 and put a new filter on the car.
for the price of a fiver or so u might aswell and to tell u the truth for another fiver id do an engine flush aswell its cheap enuff its the oil thats the sting.
Not Ok. Its like putting on a pair of clean pants that Mom took fresh out of the dryer for u to wear over a dirty pair of underware
You wont hurt anything, but you'll be waisting your money as all that pretty clean oil runs right through the dirty old filter you left on. Seriously, an oil filter cant cost more than $20. You probably paid more for the oil.
It's better than not changing your oil at all. But you really should change both at the same time for the best results.
yes it won't hurt anything but oil will leak out all over the place so be quick about it.
Not the best place to try to save money.

Would you recommend saving on toilet tissue by using both sides?
It won't hurt too much, but as filters are cheap, you really ought, you know.

dr Antony
it will make your oil dirty quicker.
