What size oil filter does a Ranger8 with an Onan Performer 16 engine take?

an aeronautical one

How do you remove the oil filter from an '06 camry. I am a firefighter and I couldn't remove it from my car!!

Sometimes the oil filter is installed too tight by some jerk at the Toyota dealership. I have had to use giant water pump pliers and once a pipe wrench to get them off. If you are nervous about the amount of force it takes, take it to Jiffy Lube and have a ball watching them fight with it.How do you remove the oil filter from an '06 camry. I am a firefighter and I couldn't remove it from my car!!
First locate the oil filter and get the proper tool for the job. Most oil filters go on real easy and come off the same way. Remember righty tighty... lefty loosey... for all you know you may have been tightening the filter rather than loosening it. Another good thing for you too do is get yourself a manual for you car, if you are going to do this kind of work yourself. Bet your getting a lot of grief at the firehouse, I know you would be at mine. Just one more thing, don't admit you are a firefighter with something this dumb....I mean jeez dude... what were you thinking?????????How do you remove the oil filter from an '06 camry. I am a firefighter and I couldn't remove it from my car!!
I can't express it enough. join a forum specializing in your car... for instance www.camryforums.com/ someone there can help you. very important to have someone who has gone through what you are about to. you can research problems with the model before they ever happen so when something does happen you know exactly what is wrong.
firefighter has a lot to do with changing your oil doesnt it?
unscrew it! lol ... if you dont know how to get an oil filter out of your car you probably shouldnt be changing the oil ... just go to get it done .. its really not that much more expensive than doing it yourself and you save yourself the time, aggrivation, and you dont get all dirty too... and you dont gotta worry about dumping the waste oil too ....
You buy an oil filter wrench from a motorfactors and that should do the job
Take it to a shop
You remove it with an oil filter wrench. Get one at any auto parts store.
us an oil filter wrench, or a big pair of channel lock pliers.
First you blast it with your hose. Then you run over the car with your truck. If that doesn't work, try hitting it with your rubber boots. If THAT doesn't work, let your dalmation have a hack at it.

Seriously, just go get a tool for removing an oil filter. It's always hard the first time. The type that is basically a nylon cord on a stick that connects to a ratchet works the best, if you can find one. Or just take it to a lube shop for the first oil change to save yourself the headache.

How do you change the oil filter in a2005GTO?

i agree with previous, just take old off,put some oil on the rubber joint of the new, handscrew it on,till you cant turn it no more, that will be just fine then, and dont forget to add some oil in the engine,to replace the oil that you lose with taking the old one off..How do you change the oil filter in a2005GTO?
Take it to a factory trained repair shop! How do you change the oil filter in a2005GTO?

Engine Damage from wrong oil filter?

I have a 2001 Audi and the mechanics put the wrong oil filter on it. A few days later it died on the interstate. They are now paying an Audi dealer to fix my engine. I am just wondering how bad it might be... are we talking, replacement, partial replacement, etc???Engine Damage from wrong oil filter?
Your car may have shut off when the low oil pressure indicator came on to prevent damage to your car. If they're paying an Audi dealer to fix it, I wouldn't worry much about it. When a shop pays a dealer to fix something for them, the dealer will more likely over-fix the problem. That is, if it's questionable as to whether or not the engine needs to be replaced, they'll insist on replacing the engine. The shop that did your oil change is making a big mistake by allowing a dealer to do the repairs, but it's mistake in your favor. Auto shops have the right to refuse to replace an engine if the feel it's unnecessary. Had they decided to do teh repairs themselves or send it to a shop with which they're ';friendly';, I'd be more concerned.

';Papa';: The wrong oil filter will not block oil flow. Installing the wrong oil filter doesn't do any damage unless the oil leaks out, usually because the seal's diameter is too big or too small.

';855T'; It's not necessary to ';always go to the dealership';. They probably make as many mistakes as independent shops. More and more, my shops are fixing problems created by dealer service departments. But I do have to agree with you on Jiffy Lube. Stay away from those guys and EZ Lube, who just settled a law suit for $250M with the State of CA for ripping off customers.

';Dru M';: Hyundai? You can't be serious. We see these cars almost daily. They're some of the worst built cars you can buy; poor design, flimsy parts. Resale values on Korean cars are horrible for a reason.

';Ronnie Wrench';: Not all quick lube shops are the same. Two of my shops are quick lubes. Like I said, we see plenty of problems caused by mechanic shops, even dealers. Mechanic shops are used to repair work, but many of them don't have much knowledge when it comes to regular maintenance on a variety of cars. Quick Lubes usually deal solely in maintenance items and often know much more about regular maintenance than mechanic shops do.Engine Damage from wrong oil filter?
where did you get it done? always go to the dealership or do it yourself, dont go to jiffy lube especially with a nice car like an audi. you should call the audi dealer, tell them what car and ask what the problems are with the car.
The wrong filter might have blocked the oil flow in the engine, and further caused the engine to burn or uneven wear out cuz there are no cleaner filtered lubes available.

the worst case you got to replace the engine. the drive train and coolent is still okay.
it depends on how much damage was done but that car should have a low oil pressure sensor that shuts the engine down before to much damage is done
Sorry, But the only way a mechanic can tell the damage done is to dissassemble the entire engine and measure and inspect. That would be almost the same as a rebuild.

I, in your case would demand a NEW replacement engine.Yes the sensor would shut it down, but will you trust it? If it were in an airplane ,would you fly?
I would say not. I have met many many people who love brands such as Volvo, Audi Saab and then purchased them with terrible results. The problem with the vehicles is low grade engineering (that is improving with Audi) and also very complicated and crowded engines. The more moving parts and systems = more problems. The only person who enjoyed an Audi (VW) purchase was my father who bought a diesel Jetta. There beautiful cars but there just not reliable. This goes for many American cars as well. My suggestion is to buy a Hyundai Elantra or Sonata ;) Good luck kiddo~
If these Bozos were stoopid enough to install the wrong oil filter then no telling what other idiotic things they did.

They owe you a new engine!

Do you need to change the oil filter when you an an oil change?

You don't need to, but the filters are cheap and you're under the car anyways, why wouldn't you.Do you need to change the oil filter when you an an oil change?
if you don't you are just throwing money away.oil ain't as cheap as it used to be.Do you need to change the oil filter when you an an oil change?
changing the filter is more important than changing the oil/not changing the filter is like taking a shower and putting your dirty clothes back on
yes....the oil filter is dirtier then the old oil
YES! they do a major part on the car, all the oil goes through here and gets the dirt and other stuff ( insolubles ) filtered out. Just change it when you change the oil... just be sure to not use frams, cheaply made and overpriced! Open one up and you'll see!
you dont HAVE to for the car to run, but why wouldnt you? its not healthy for the engine, and it takes all of 5 bucks and 3 extra minutes.... it holds icky oil in there anyway, it'd be circulating back through the engine after the change. bleh. dont half a** things with the engine, its never worth it in the long run.
yesss cough up the extra $5 use police and taxi schedule, change oil%26amp;Filter every 3 months, or 3000 miles, which ever comes first.

Auto. transmission oil : Change once a year, or every 60,000 miles, which ever comes first
It is recommeneded for longer engine life that you change your filter %26amp; oil at every 2,500 - 3,000 miles or every 3 months depending on your driving habits. If you change you oil but not the filter, you maybe contaminating the new oil.
yes, you need to change your oil filter too. very important!

Oil filter holes.. some filters have 4 holes, others have 6. is this number important...?

no they are there for drainage and makes no different at all just make sure you use a good filter and hand tighten it check for leaks, hope this helps.Oil filter holes.. some filters have 4 holes, others have 6. is this number important...?
Makes no difference at all. It's just a manufacturing design thing.Oil filter holes.. some filters have 4 holes, others have 6. is this number important...?
As long as the filter fits your engine %26amp; doesn't leak, %26amp; the holes are on the inside, good to go!

  • Hey i own a 1996 excel and replaced the oil + fuel filter is it a bad sign if it starts ticking on start-up?

If it just lasts a few seconds, that's normal. You can avoid that to some extent by filling the new oil filter before you put it on, but the best thing is to crank the engine a little bit with the Ignition disabled, to fill the filter and passages that run dry when you take the filter off. The easiest way to do that is to temporarily pull the ECM fuse.Hey i own a 1996 excel and replaced the oil + fuel filter is it a bad sign if it starts ticking on start-up?
Yes! If it does not withing 5 to 10 second. Most time when I change old pull coil wire or fuse. So I can spen the engine over a few times. The plug coil wire or put the fuse back in to start it up. If make a ticking sound I turn engine off. Then wait a few second. Then fire it up.

The ticking is the valve not getting any oil. The best way to stop it is fill the oil fiter with oil. Or as much as you can get in it. Without making a mess. Some you cannot to tis way at all.

If it stopped right a way the there was no damage to the engine. A good when change oil is do not let drain to long. When it stop running in a stream put plug back in. No longer than getting the fiter off. The same with the oil fiter.Hey i own a 1996 excel and replaced the oil + fuel filter is it a bad sign if it starts ticking on start-up?
i had some cars that tapped on start up and soon went away after warm up a good precaution for a car that old is to put lucas oil stabilizer every oil change engine will last alot longer
check the oil level. low oil can cause valve chatter.

How to install o ring seal for oil filter case for 1991 honda accord lx?

The spindle that hold the oil filter on IS removable. Either an allen wrench that goes ';inside'; the hollow spindle or a wrench on the outside ';base'; of the spindle. After removal of the spindle the oil filter housing will be semi-free, enough to do your work. Make sure any %26amp; all gaskets replaced or removed are ';contaminate free'; (dirt, rust......yada yada) and oiled prior to placement %26amp; you should be fine.

What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter & the oil & filter?

take it and have the computer scanned on it that will give you a trouble code to work with ,without having that done all you can do is guess at it,auto zone will scan it for free then you,ll know, its usually a bad sensor that causes that too happen, but have it scanned to be sure, good luck with it.What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter %26amp; the oil %26amp; filter?
Most likely a vacuum hose leak in the engine compartment. What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter %26amp; the oil %26amp; filter?
WELL FRIST OF ALL.THE OIL/FILTER DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. NOW YOU DONT SAY WHAT MOTOR BUT MOST ARE 318-360 OR MAYBE A V-6 BUT THEY ARE SO CLOSE TO THE SAME. AIR FILTER IF DIRTY WOULD MAKE IT RUN SLOW OR NOT AT ALL IF REAL BAD. YOU NEED TO HAVE IT SCANNED.BUT YOU DID NOT SAY IF CHECK ENG.LITE IS ON.BUT I WILL MAKE A GOOD QUESS AND SAY ITS MOST LIKELY TO BE A (IAC)IDEL AIR CONTROL OR (TPS) THROTTLE POSITION SOLENOID EVEN GIVEN THE FACT ITS A 1989 IT STILL HAVE A LOT OF COMPUTER STUFF THAT COULD BE WORN OUT, LIKE THINGS ,O2SENSOR,MAP SENSOR,AIR VALVE,BAD INJECTOR AND SO ON. FIND SOME WITH A SCANNER,SOMETIMES ADVANCE AUTO PARTS WILL DO IT FOR FREE GET IT SCANNED,GO FROM THERE.GOOD LUCK!
if the idle is high and variable it can be a vacuum leak......maybe a cracked rubber hose around the intake area.

It it is high and consistant it can be as simple as a timing adjustment or adjusting the idle itself.

What cars does a fram PH5 oil filter go on?

I dont no what year my car motor is. I have 1979 Delta 88 Royale but it has a chevy 350 in it. it looks like a 90s model because it has the center bolt valve cover. I do remember owning something that took a PH5... It would fit the 327 in my '70 C10 pickup. I think that filter will fit all small blocks (including the 4.3L V6) up to the early '00s. I can't remember if it will fit my '97 GM 350 (but I would bet that it does).

It was the Chevy, or it was my '77 Jeep CJ with the 258 I6...What cars does a fram PH5 oil filter go on?
Thats sounds familar to me, i know I had that for the longest time, and I owned a lot of S-10s, but the one had the V-6 4.3 L and the other had a 2.3L 4 banger......go to AutoZone and look in there lil catalogue thingy

Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?

No, it doesnt affect the gaskets, but it'll affect the engine's performance. Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?
it shouldn't if you prepped the gasket properly!! on new gasket put some of oil on it with your finger so its not dry when you reattach it.. helps the gasket like lube (Don't use wd-40 as it is solvent). Will the wrong weight oil blow the gasket on the oil filter?
No, not likely. More likely is an improperly installed filter, or one where the gasket from the old filter was left stuck to the engine, and the new filter installed on top of it...a common mistake.
It shouldn't, the only way to blow a gasket is if you didn't have the filter on tight enough.
if you put to heavy an oil you could possibly blow out gaskets if the oil pressure got to high

2001 dakota i changed my oil pump and oil filter but still had low oil pressure so i tried thicker oil?

My wife's '97, 3.9 Dakota 4x4 had very low oil pressure at 130,000 miles, changed sending units and now have 40 plus pounds at 2000 RPM 25 pounds at idle with 145,000 miles using Pennzoil 10W-30 high mileage oil.

Check oil pressure using mechanical gauge before throwing money at engine.2001 dakota i changed my oil pump and oil filter but still had low oil pressure so i tried thicker oil?
on this one you may wind up replacing the main bearings in it,when they get bad they will cause a severe loss of oil pressure,if i replaced those id also do the rod bearings ,that should restore the oil pressure on it,if not you may have spun a cam bearing in it,good luck with finding it,2001 dakota i changed my oil pump and oil filter but still had low oil pressure so i tried thicker oil?
Have you given any thought to the possibility that your oil pressure gauge may be faulty? I've run into this before and it was a bad gauge. Try a known good one to eliminate the possibility. Good Luck
How low is low? It could be close to spec. What oil have you been using. How thick is the oil you're going to? But to answer the question the best i can, yes that will help.
check your manuals and see where the poppet ball for the oil pressure by-pass valve is located. it my be partially stuck open for some reason.

Used engine oil's carcinogenic (though we didn't know and didn't worry years ago) and probably hot too, if you're doing it properly.

Rubber gloves, and possibly eye protection if you don't want something falling in there while you're underneath. That's why you always see the guys (and gals) in the garage wearing dinky surgeons' latex gloves. At least, that's what they say!
YOU SHOULD NOT LET OIL GET ON YOUR SKIN AS SOME PEOPLE CAN HAVE DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS FROM THE OIL.YOU SHOULD WEAR RUBBER GLOVES AND DESPICABLE OVALS WHEN CHANGING YOUR OIL.
Very little danger of any contanimation only dirty hands , and i have sufferd that for many years without any harm
You get dirty and all the crap thats from the inside of the engine is in the old oil. use a good barrier cream then after its done wash yer hands, oh and dont forget to put the oil down the drain or whatever, should get the greenies going ha ha.

should be done hot and I always burn my hands or lose the drain plug

If the threads, clearance, and seal are the same, there should be no problem, but I would advise sticking with the part number the manufacturer recommends. also get a large band wrinch to help you with it or a large cup with a 3/8ths drive extention with a breaker bar or a rachet
And remember: SAFETY FIRST! Anytime your going under a vehicle, especially when it's raised off the ground or the tires have been removed, you MUST have safety jack stands properly positioned under the frame of the vehicle and the wheels chocked to prevent the vehicle from rolling. You really should have a buddy system too where a friend is there with a cell phone to call in an emergency or use the floor jack you've got standing by for quick assistance etc.
The oil filter is on the bottom left/driver's side of the engine. Will be situated above the K-member or where the left front tire is approximately located. Be advised, you may have to turn the wheel to help be able to get the filter out of that hell hole there.

i know that you MUST change the o-rings when changing the oil filter as said in the owner's manual, but I'm afraid to remove the oil and filter without knowing where the o-rings go before hand. and i hate to keep going to the dealership because they charge $45-$50 per oil change! What is the procedure in changing the oil %26amp; oil filter on a 2008 ford escape hybrid? where do the o-rings go?
the guy that said about the cartridge filter is correct.....be carefull...if you don't keep a record of the oil change(Receipt of purchase of filter and oil) the dealer that you go to may void your warrenty if something goes wrong due to you changing the filter...and since fords kinda in a crunch right now...the void stamper is really getting used. What is the procedure in changing the oil %26amp; oil filter on a 2008 ford escape hybrid? where do the o-rings go?
The o-rings go on the oil filter , in grooves at the top , always make sure the old ones come off! Physically take the old one off with you hand and feel the area where your oil filter screws into , sometimes they will stick there and not come off . Just put a little oil on the new filter o-rings when you install new one , this will prevent it from drying out and cracking and causing leaks , and also , it will be easyier to take off next time ..
its not a traditional screw on filter its actually a cartridge element, the small o-ring goes on new cartridge, the large one goes on the cover you remove to change cartridge (filter)

How do you change an oil filter on a 2001 Jetta - VR6? Never seen one with O-Rings.?

Jimmy is correct EXCEPT never use channel locks on a PLASTIC canister. They crack VERY easy. I have 3 cracked ones next to my tool box from Jiffy Lube using channel locks.

Also you need to lube the O-ring with oil, or WD40 and only tighten the filter with a 36mm socket to 25 Newton Meters. Over-tightening it breaks the new O-ring and can Crack the oil filter housing.

Make sure your using synthetic Oil on you Volkswagen, it's VERY important....How do you change an oil filter on a 2001 Jetta - VR6? Never seen one with O-Rings.?
It's a canister filter. Take a 6mm hex wrench and remove the oil filter housing plug first to drain the canister. Once that is drained, use a 36mm socket (or channel locks) and remove the housing. Remove and replace oil filter, anc screw it back on.

i need details. How do i change the oil filter on a 2006 HHR?
This forum explains it pretty well- (it sounds like you might need to pull off the plastic engine cover- just take off the oil cap and gently pull the cover off). Remove the 32mm bolt on the filter housing (a 1 1/4'; driver may work, too), and slip off the plastic housing cap. Then just pull out the old filter (which isn't like like the standard filter can), pop in the new one, and reassemble.

Note: make sure you don't mistake the starter coil for the filter housing.

Before using a non OEM oil filter, you better do some research.

Different brands have different PSI ratings for the relief valve.

If the PSI rating is not equal to the OEM filter, damage can occur to the engine.

My motto - If the part has anything to do with the engine, stock is best.

You can buy oil filters on-line.

Buy a bunch at a time, so you'll always have one on hand when it's needed.

    WIX I say again WIX

also K%26amp;N are Excelent but costly (overkill for a street car)

NO filter filters 99 or 100% (with specialty exceptions)

this is due to bypass valve

there testing shows 99% but this is misleading yes it filters out 99% of contaminants(only of oil that actualy flows through media) but when cold most oil just bypasses filterWhat's the best auto oil filter on the market ?

the best filters are either K%26amp;N or Mobil 1 filters they filter out like 99% of contaminants and they have an anti- drain back valve which prevents cold starting but for the most part any quality filter ( pure one, fram, stp, AC delco, or motorcraft) will be fine as long as you change your oil on time.
i use fram or k%26amp;n on my car there good filters
i own a repair shop and i have always used fram filters and never had any problems from them at all ,i have tried other brands and they worked alright ,but i do prefer a fram or an ac delco those are my two only choices, good luck hope this helps.

Once the cars up on ramps or jack stands, it's usually within elbow reach.

And if it is real stuck.........we stab them all the way through both sides with a Philips screwdriver and leverage them off that way......Messy some times.....but it works

No jack stands or ramps........pull 2 wheels up and in line on a curbHow do you change oil filter on isuzu trooper mk1 mine is at the rear of engine i cant reach properly from top?
The best way to do this is from under the engine, lay on your back with a nice strong screw driver. Hammer the screw driver into the side of the oil filter and keep hammering until the screw driver has gone all the way through the filter. You can then lever the screw driver round to turn the filter off.

Remember to smear a little engine oil onto the rubber seal of the new filter before you fit it and only tighten the filter hand tight.

    Ja.
MANY auto manufacturers design their cars for ease of assembly (and therefore lower production costs) rather than ease of maintenance. Sorry to hear you have one of those.

Many times you have to remove something to get to the oil filter. Shouldn't be anything major, but you might need to remove a plastic cover or something. Do you have it jacked up on secure jack stands? Lay on your back and try to get at it from a number of angles. There should be one where you can remove it safely.

There are also a WIDE range of oil filters out there. My favorites are Purolator, Purolator Pure One, NAPA Gold, and Amsoil. The ';correct'; filter for any vehicle isn't always the exact same size from different manufacturers. Get some help from the guy/gal at the parts store to help you find one with the correct thread but a shorter body so it's easier to install. The flip side of this approach is that you will have a smaller filter element inside so it will clog sooner, but you should still be fine for 3,000 miles or so.

    Good luck!

Check if there's a skid plate, sometimes they're behind the skid plate which you have to remove to change the oil filter.A skid plate is a thick metal sheet to protect your engine from damage and is under the oil pan, or the engine

Also, check for oil lines coming from the engine, the oil filter is sometimes up by the radiator close to the oil cooler( radiator for engine oil).

How often should you change the oil and filter in the car?

    Hi, Freedom:

There are a lot of good answers, but let me mention that your service manual will tell you how often to change your oil and filter, some allow 5000 miles..

Having said that, let me add that a man in Montana bought a used GMC truck and changed the oil and filter every 2,000 miles. He changed it so often that the threads wore out on the pan so he had it welded up and rethreaded. When the odomoter was approaching 1,000,000 miles he notified the newspaper. A radio station disk-jockey rode with him when it hit the million miles.

I believe in changing about 2,000 miles with filter. Why? Well, I've been around a long time and remember when leaded fuels contaminated your oil. Even changing every thousand miles religiously, the rods would start knocking and smoke poured out at about 75,000 miles. That was because the combustion of the additive created an acid residue that etched the inside of the engine.

Unleaded fuels burn clean like propane does, so we can get more miles, but carbon does build up and it wears the engine.

Here in Costa Rica, the taxicabs drive mostly Hyundai or Toyota. They change the oil once a month and I've ridden in many with over 300,000 KM. The drivers tell me they only have to add a clutch periodically and changes water hoses.

So, oil is cheaper than an engine and I recommend you change it yourself with a good multi viscosity oil like Casdtorol, Valvoline or Havoline. Pennzoil and Quakerstate are parafine based and regardless of the advertising, it should be avoided.

Blessings, Ben YeshuaHow often should you change the oil and filter in the car?
About 3500 mile if you use regular oil, if you use a synthetic blend you can get another 1000 or so miles, straight synthetic oil about 7500 miles. If you drive short trips this is a good time line. If you drive longer trips you can stretch it a little. Remember, oil is cheap and engines very expensive. Good luck. And change the oil filter evey time. Air filters in new cars / trucks are good for 35,000 milesHow often should you change the oil and filter in the car?
so oils say 5000 miles or more but the best thing to do for you car is change the old every 3000 miles, when you do that install a quality oil filter as well. evey 4 old changes or so which is aroudn 12000 miles you should change you air filter as well.
We change ours every 2000 miles or 6 months, which ever comes first.

    http://www.aa1car.com/library/how_often_鈥?/a>

I just looked it up. This site says every 3000 miles or every 6 months. Well, our cars must be squeaky clean then. lol
Every 2000 miles in warm temps. Every 3000 in cold temps. Filter should be changed every time you change the oil.
Every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Change the oil filter when you change the oil. Replace your air filter every 12,000 miles
My husband always changes the oil and filter every 2000 miles. The usual is 3000 miles but he won't wait that long.
they say every 3000 miles but that also depends on how dirty your engine is inside.

You can either use the original fibre filters (they can collapse and cut off the oil feed) or fit a spin on type remote filter that uses an adaptor to divert the oil flow.

Can the engin still cirrculate oil if there is no oil filter in it?

Actually yes. If the engine is designed with out a filter, like most dirt bikes, quads, and lawn mowers they will run just fine. However, as most of you have stated, if it came with an oil filter, and you do not have on on your engine, it will be a very short life span for the engine..Can the engin still cirrculate oil if there is no oil filter in it?
Theorhetically yes, but the impurities in your oil and in the places it passes through would gunk up your engine beyond belief.

Oil filters are cheap. Way cheaper than a cracked block. Can the engin still cirrculate oil if there is no oil filter in it?
It worked for the old air cooled VW's. But modern automotive engines (The Beetle engine was designed in the 1930's!) are designed to send all the oil through the filter. You would need to replace the filter with some sort of cap / bypass fitting so the oil doesn't just get pumped out the hole where the filter goes. And I don't know why you would want to do that.
no it cant... oil will leak from the filter fixing point
no it will pour out the filter hole
i will circulate the minimum part of oil, because the other part of oil is ex pulsed, but still remains a very little part so your engine wont die immediately but you have to make the repair soon
No, because then the oil would drain out of the port where the filter should be.
im pretty positive you need an oil filter, clean or not, in order to circulate oil. its just like a valve kinda thing that you need in there to keep the oil flowing.
yes, but youll have to seal off where there filter goes. stick magnets on your pan to keep metal particals out of the way.
Let's say you put in a bypass to plug the leak at oil filter connection, Yes, the engine would still recirculate the oil without the filter. But I am curious as to your reason for the question.

    Good question,

    Darryl S.
Nope. Yes, but you will destory the engine by pumping most of the oil out in a hurry. The engine circulates oil through that filter. Besides, if the oil isn't filtered you will get dirt in your engine. Dirt will destory an engine very quickly.

How do you change the oil filter in a 2009 matrix? ?

I believe its the cartridge's by the oil pan on the passengers side but I can't get it off, Help? How do you change the oil filter in a 2009 matrix? ?
It is by the oil pan. You should be able to see it when the car is lifted off the ground. What I like to do is drain the oil first, and then once the oil isn't dripping heavily because it is almost all out, then go to and take off/change the oil filter. The reason why: If you take the filter off first, oil is in there and once it becomes loosened, it'll splatter everywhere and probably on your face, hands, arms, body, ground, etc... It'll still have oil on it after you drain the oil, but not so bad in my experience.

Anyway, the tool to get is off is an oil filter wrench. Place it on it, turn it until it becomes loosened, and then once it budges loose, you can screw it off with your hand. Pretty simple. Not hard at all. But if you don't have an oil filter wrench, I would go buy one and do it use that. Another why I do it if a car is brought to me that is so crowded, is this: get a crappy screwdriver or something that isn't used as a dependable tool and hit it with a hammer or mallet. Hit in into the side of the oil filter until it goes in. Oil will drop out, but then, once it's in, you can turn the screw driver to loosen it. Once you turn the screw driver to bust it loose, the oil filter will go with it. Be careful to be sure you don't push it all the way through and hit another part of the motor. But you should be able to get it off with the wrench. Best of luck!

No, the oil travels through the filter under pressure, it would just make it fall apart.

How often should i change the air filter, oil, and jets on a wr450f?

Clean the air filter as needed. After each ride if you ride in dusty conditions. Every couple of weeks on normal conditions. Change the air filter once a year.

You don't need to change jets as any part of routine maintenance. You only change the jets if you make engine modifications like aftermarket exhaust or internal engine modifications. How often should i change the air filter, oil, and jets on a wr450f?
Adam, if you buy one, invest in a manual. So many people ask technical questions about their bikes that can be found in a manual.

It will provide you with all the relevent details ie; servicing intervals, fault finding etc!

Like the other answers, if you are punishing it on the dirt. Change your clean your air filter.

Oil wise, I wouldn't do it after every. I would say every 500kms if you have ridden it hard and your oil has darkened.

This is an indication of your oil becoming dirty, but by no means bad. Change your filter as well!
You should change your oil after every ride right after you wash the bike and get ready to put it away if you want it to last. You need to clean your air filter after every ride also. It doesnt matter how tall you are it is if you can handle the power. Why not buy a YZF 450 or a CRF 450 they are the best bikes around and give the least amount of problems and last
In dusty conditions, you should clean the air filter after each ride. Oil and oil filter every three months or if it smells burnt. Carburetor jets should not be a problem if you store the bike properly.

I'm assuming you have no experience from the question. A 450 is a whole lot of bike for a beginner. I would shop in the 200-250cc range. Make sure you can reach the ground while sitting in the saddle.

Save yourself frustration by buying a shop manual.

High mileage oil filters are nothing other than a trick for people willing to stick their necks out for 15,000 -25,000 mile oil changes. They are expressly manufactured to allow more garbage to pass through them before the bypass valve opens. They also do not filter fine particle sizes as well as well as regular filters. Find one that best fits your filter, and also take into consideration the space you have to work with around your filter in the vehicle, as some are very limited, and may require a special tool.

You cant find it is because most of the German cars has a Plastic mud guard covering rest of the stuff under the hood. It protects the A/C, radiators, and other good stuff from Road Debris

Look carefully, take off the plastic cover underneath the car,

It should be hooking up w/ the bumper.

then you will find the Oil filter.

Drive mazda 6, the dip stick shows up dry put have have enough oil in it. Is it the oil filter?

If the oil doesnt show on the stick you dont have enough oil in it!!Drive mazda 6, the dip stick shows up dry put have have enough oil in it. Is it the oil filter?
use the mazda 6 extra long dipstick......have you put the oil in the right hole....Drive mazda 6, the dip stick shows up dry put have have enough oil in it. Is it the oil filter?
What makes you think you've put enough oil in it? Presuming it's the right dipstick, park the car on the level, stop the engine %26amp; wait 5 minutes before dipping. If the oil still doesn't show, there isn't enough in it, simple as that.
Just keep in mind the distance from the bottom of the dipstick to the full mark represents only 1 quart. Many people think they are completely out when the dipstick is dry!
if the dip show it to have no oil u have one or two probs its not enough oil or the dip stick is not the right one
are you useing dip stick with engine running ? if so the low reading is from amount of oil used to lube under pressure cams ,crank rods etc most engines use 2 to 3 qts under press if you try to use dip stick right after you turn off some of lube oil may take time to return to pan use stick after 15 min of turn off

Where can I locate the oil filter for 2003 Toyota Highlander?

If you have a V6, I believe that if you reach up under the exhaust manifold and feel around you'll find it. From what I hear, it's not possible to see the filter. Apparently, there is also no easy way to extract the filter from the engine compartment after it is off either because your arm is wrapped around the fan and under the exhaust and it's easy to spill oil everywhere. Good luck!Where can I locate the oil filter for 2003 Toyota Highlander?
It's really hard to reach and it'll be messy when you do remove it. If you're underneath the vehicle it's near the middle of the motor on the drivers side up above the plastic motor shroud. You have to reach up around the wheel suspension to get at it with a filter wrench. I'd bring it to pep boys or someone else and pay them to change the oil. It's a hassle. Every time I've done it no matter how careful I am, I get oil all over myself.Where can I locate the oil filter for 2003 Toyota Highlander?
if it is like the camry it's tucked up right before the oil pan when you look from under the car you need to get under the car to get to it you'll need the circular bowl tool and at least a 10'; extention to take it out hope this helps you.

Gas is oil filter when I changed it?

I have a 17HP OHV Tecumseh enigne fot a riding lawnmower. It quit working last year with blue smoke coming from it. I found that I had a bad gasket where my cylinder head is. I went to change oil and filter when the nothing but black gas came out of oil filter. It appears that I have something else wrong. What could it be?Gas is oil filter when I changed it?
sounds like some body put gas in the motor theres no way gas can get in with a blown head gasket if were on your car it wood be water lawn mower engines will burn gas when it hits the spark plug it cant get to the engine it burns up flush engine and change filterGas is oil filter when I changed it?
A blown head gasket will indeed transfer gas into the oil and, depending upon how long the condition went on, can severely harm bearings and piston rings. Change the gasket, add new oil, (don't go with cheap oil), and change the oil filter, fuel filter, spark plug(s), and air filter. Then just run it and hope for the best.
if the float is stuck open in the carburetor the gas will get into the crankcase. if it is a gravity feed.
blown gasket or cracked head or cylinder will transfer gas to oil

WV golf 1 keeps blowing the oil filter rubber seal, oil filter, rubber seals , different filters etc tried?

Did a valve job about a month ago, but vehicle only started blowing the seals in last couple of days, tried different new filters - this vehicle does not have a oil cooler fitted, the filter screws straight onto the block, the contact surfaces are perfect, used a PAYEN head gasket which seemed a perfect match, help - desperateWV golf 1 keeps blowing the oil filter rubber seal, oil filter, rubber seals , different filters etc tried?
too much oil pressure will do it.if the relief valve that regulates oil pressure is stuck shut ,it will sky rocket teh oil pressure to the point it will explode replacable filters or gaskets like on you car.it is also possible that a piece of crap got stuck into it so it wont open right either.WV golf 1 keeps blowing the oil filter rubber seal, oil filter, rubber seals , different filters etc tried?
My friend had the same problem. We ended up changing the hole unit that the oil filter screws to.
Take the filter back off and check the surface where the rubber gasket touches on engine for a gasket that has become stuck to engine. If you don't lube the new gasket with oil when installing new filter it can become stuck on engine. if there is another gasket the oil will spray out between the two gas gets.

  • A quick Question about transmission oil and filter ,gasket?

By Changing your transmission oil and filter ,gasket every years will help the transmission last longer? But Some people say if you change the transmission fluids your transmission will break down it this true? How much would you think it will be to change the transmission oil and filter ,gasket at the dealership? The Vechiles is a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9 with 105k miles, It never had the transmission filter change never!A quick Question about transmission oil and filter ,gasket?
Some newer cars don't need to have the transmission fluid changed ever, however on an american car I suggest you do it right away. If you do it yourself the kit will cost about $50 or so at an auto parts store but I suggest you buy the kit at a dealer (some autoparts stores have very cheap gaskets and will probably leak transmission fluid) hope this helps.A quick Question about transmission oil and filter ,gasket?
Trans oil should be changed every 30,000 miles Transmission parts,as any working device wears with age. These small particles are filtered out by the screen as does an oil filter does for an engine. Also the oils lubricating qualities break down over time. Ideally when you change the trans oil they should drill %26amp; tap the converter with a 1/8 pipe plug. Over half of the oil retained in the converter.
ideal trans fluid and filter change is anywhere between 40k-65k. and no, changing it wont cause damage, however, NEVER attempt a trans flush as it might damage your trans internally due to the high pressure process it undergoes during the process, chances are higher in high mileage engines. for fluid capacity and filter exactness, go to your local auto part store and tell them your vehicles specification (i.e., year, make, model, type of trans, 2wd? 4wd?).
tranny service depending on area usually runs around 198.67 thats what we charge, now if you've never flushed trans don't do it, tranny fluid is basically a heavy duty cleaner and if you have years of build up it could be holding things together and flushing the stuff out will make things fall apart. but you should have filter replaced, about every year or 15k miles

Where is the oil filter in the 2007 camry? It dosen't say anything about it in the manual.?

I cannot find the lication of the oil filter in the V6 2007 camry. And the manual says nothing about it. Can anyone help?Where is the oil filter in the 2007 camry? It dosen't say anything about it in the manual.?
the oil filter is a pain to get to on your car. Normally you would want the engine to be hot when you change the oil to get a good drain but if you are going to do it yourself i suggest to do it while cold. THe oil filter is under the exhaust manifold on front of engine just below the oil fill cap. You will probably need a filter cup and a 3 or 6 inch extension and a ratchet. You can try with a wrench but the exhaust gets in the way. TO save yourself a lot of grief take it to a quick lube or dealer. But you can do it yourself like i said just make sure your engie is cold or you WILL get burnt.Where is the oil filter in the 2007 camry? It dosen't say anything about it in the manual.?
Oil filter is always near the bottom of the engine. You will see it if you look from below.
the owners manual only displays information that is relevant to the owner, therefore you probably should take your car to an auto shop, oil changes should be done by a professional to make sure that there's no damage done to the car.

Where is the oil filter/cannister on a 2006 BMW 530i.?

I have searched the internet. It appears as though some oil filter cannisters are underneath the car and some can be viewed towards the front of the engine. I see a cap when I open the hood but the cannister doesn't appear to be large enough to house a filter. Please let me know.Where is the oil filter/cannister on a 2006 BMW 530i.?
If memory serves me. On that car the oil filter is on the bottom of the car behind the oil pan. The filter housing has its own drain plug that you can release before actually removing the oil filter. You can drain the filter and the pan at the same time. The oil filter housing uses an allen socket and the oil pan can take either a 17mm socket or an allen socket, depending on which has been installed.

Can i change the oil filter on my car with oil still in the car?

or when i take off the filter will all the oil leak out?Can i change the oil filter on my car with oil still in the car?
i wouldn't change the filter and not change the oil too. your not saving any time or money in the long run cause your goin to have to change it eventually and not to mention the risk your taking by not changing the oil as needed and plus by just changing the filter your not making the oil any cleaner, your just wasting money and prolonging the inevitable but the answer is yes you can but you'll have a mess to clean up no matter where your oil filter is on your car.Can i change the oil filter on my car with oil still in the car?
It depends on how your filter is positioned, but you will lose the oil that remains in the filter and some will spill out regardless. I've known older guys who change filters every 3000 or so miles and oil every 6000. Just remember, changing the oil regularly in your car, especially high-mileage cars, is the most important thing you can do to maintain it. Depending on where you live, you may not need to change your oil until five to 7000 miles. Check your manual. But I would suggest doing the full job every time. I used to change my oil every time myself, but if you look around for specials in the mass of car shops around, you will likely find one that costs about the same as doing it yourself.
depends on the location of your oil filter. If it is above your oil pan than you will only have what is left over on the upper section up to where the filter is. If is below or in line well I am sure you know the answer to that.
nope just a small amount of oil thats in filter will come out but why replace filter and not the oil kind of like washing feet and putting on dirty socks
Just a small amount of oil will come out from the filter with the oil still in the engine
oil out first or u have big mess
When you remove the filter all of the oil will drain out which why when you change the filter you need to know how much oil your engine requires.

When I change my oil should I also change my oil Filter?

Oh and What kind of oil do you recommend for a ford 2003 explorer xlt with 67000 miles on itWhen I change my oil should I also change my oil Filter?
or you can just look on your oil cap and usually they tell you what weight to put in or call the people down to autozone and they can tell you, use whatever you have perviously put in it, or if ur looking to switch valvoline makes good stuff, i run their full synthetic and love it , doesnt look bad when it drains out of the motor, mobil 1 isnt even full sythetic anymore so dont go with that oil, you pay alot for cheap oilWhen I change my oil should I also change my oil Filter?
If you fail to change your filter, you are putting in clean oil on top of dirty oil accumulated in the filter. You then have oil that is already dirty. Not much has been accomplished in terms of eliminating unnecessary friction on your engine because of the grit accumulated in dirty oil. 10w30 weight should do just fine, this time of the year.
Defiantly change your oil filter every time you change your oil.

Stick with the recommended oil that is in your owners manual.

A good thing to do is get your self a K%26amp;N air filter for your ride.

All you have to do is clean the filter every 10,000 miles %26amp; add new oil to the filter.
It really depends on how you drive the vehicle, and what climate it's in. If the climate is cold, you should use a thinner oil (10/30 or 10/40), and if it's hot climate, use a heavier oil (20/50). I would use Castrol. It's a good oil. 20/50 is for ';heavy duty'; driving.

LOL, whenever you change your oil, you should ALWAYS change your oil filter. If you just adding oil, the oil filter change isn't necessary. :) You should also change your oil every 3000-5000 miles.. just added a little more info. :)
just use castrol 10-30w.its the best all around oil.good for as low as 10- 130 degrees.its all i use in my gas rigs.and yes change youre filter every time.castrol with a fram tough guard filter.thats what i use.except in my stang i use a K%26amp;N.
always change the filter with an oil change and you can look in your owners manual to see what oil they recommend.
yes, change you filter every time you change your oil.Valvoline 5W30
    Yes, without fail.
yes. it's very important to keep out particles in your engine.

also there seems to be a creamy coloured gunk on the oil cap, is this bad?To avoid being ripped off how much doe it roughly cost to get an oil and filter change?
What an oil change costs all depends on how much oil your car takes. Mine takes just shy of 4 quarts, but since my car burns a little oil, I usually buy about 5-6 quarts, just in case. All around, it costs me about $17 or so. Plus, it all depends on what kind of oil you get and where you shop to get your oil.To avoid being ripped off how much doe it roughly cost to get an oil and filter change?
The gunk on the oil cap is water contamination.

Could be the head gasket is leaking a little bit or just condensation build up over the years.

Clean out the gunk and check the dipstick shows no signs of water in the sump.

Cost wise I would say about 拢10.00 for the filter 拢25.00 for the new oil and Half hour labour 拢15.00 so about the 拢50.00 mark.
in my area it runs about 20 to 30 bucks.
A decent garage should charge around 拢60 for oil %26amp; oil filter (there is a charge included for oil disposal) air filter and a check over other serviceable parts.
If you do it yourself it can cost as little as $10. Or you can bring your car to a dedicated oil changing service that will change it for you for $20.

    Hope this helps!
    25 to 35 dollars 50 -70 for synthetic
Ooooooh dear. That gunk is bad news. There is water getting into your oil. You will probably have to have the whole system drained and cleaned out and a new oil filler cap along with new fresh oil. Filters are quite expensive, well for bikes they are! Get an estimate or better still a quotation. Estimates are guess work and a quote is the actual cost and cannot be changed. Shop around for the best deal
i do it myself for $25. most places around me charge 30-40 to get it done but it depends on where you live (standard of living) because labor costs change in different areas
i charge 15 but at the shop it cost about 20 to 30 dollers

i have tore this oil filter almost to nothing and it still want come off if u need a pic of what im dealing with i will gladly send someone please helpHow do i get my oil filter off of my 94 chevy beretta?
You need an oil filter wrench.

What it looks like is a strap of steel in a loop, connected to a handle. You slip it over the filter, and as you pull to turn it, it tightens in a death-grip, so it doesn't slip like the socket kind that slips off the end of the filter.

Go to any parts store and ask. Piece of cake. How do i get my oil filter off of my 94 chevy beretta?
If you have already torn it, you just need to keep going until it comes off.

Next time, use a filter wrench (inexpensive tool).

For now, drive a long-handled screw driver all the way through the filter and keep turning it until the filter comes loose.

Don't forget to dab a little oil on the rubber gasket of the new filter before putting it on. Then hand tighten it and give it an additional 1/4 turn with a filter wrench, no more. Do not over tighten the new filter.
Use a punch, or a really long nail and hammer it through the filter. Your not going to reuse it anyway. you can twist it by the nail, it makes it way easier. I do it in tight spots where my oil filter wrench or strap wrench wont work.

It is black gunk. Oil, grease, dirt all cooked onto your engine block.
Your valve cover gaskets could need changing or you may need to replace your PCV valve. That, of course, depends on exactly where your oil filter is located. Not knowing the make, model, or year of your vehicle makes this one kind of tough to answer.

I would more likely say it's the valve cover gaskets, because the oil seeps out and then gunks up over time. You could use some engine cleaner to clean your valve covers and then watch it daily to see if it's coming out of the PCV valve or the sides of the valve covers. However, the gunk could be stopping a leak and cleaning it could make it leak more. I once had a leaky power steering unit, but it got so gunked up that after a while it stopped leaking!

Changing your PCV valve is much easier than replacing the valve cover gaskets, so you could just go ahead and change it if you haven't done so already.

Are you having to add oil between changes? If not, and you never run low on oil, then it could just be a dirty engine. Do you live in or drive a lot in the country? It's not necessary to clean your engine block. The best thing you can do for your vehicle is change your oil as recommended for your particular engine and check it often. Synthetic oil costs more, but can help your engine last longer.
check your PCV valve. You probably need a new one.

i drove just a little with the old oil filter onDoes it make any difference to change the oil filter from old to new the day AFTER the oil change?
well it's best to change the filter when you change the oil as now you have at least a half qt. of old oil mixing in with your new oil.Does it make any difference to change the oil filter from old to new the day AFTER the oil change?
You don't want to drive it with an old filter. It's not going to hurt the car, but the oil filter stores a small amount of oil (depends on filter size, usually 1/2 quart or so) inside, and when you change the oil, you still have that old bad oil in the filter.

So when you start the car right after an oil change with the old filter in, you're reintroducing the bad oil into the system.

Don't fret though, you still have plenty of good oil in there, but next time try to change both at the same time.
Yes it does. Your oil filter traps most of the particles that end up in your oil, your everyday dust, dirt, even metal shavings. All of these can be put back into your fresh new oil without replacing your filter.

Should be no long term damage, but next time, spend the $5- $15 and buy a new filter

Can you tell me the steps for changing the oil of a car and oil filter?

step by step and where to buy partsCan you tell me the steps for changing the oil of a car and oil filter?
Go to your local parts store and buy the oil and filter before doing this.

jack the car up a little and support it from underneath.

get a drain pan that will hold more than a gallon of fluid.

lay on the ground and slide under the car and find the drain plug on the oil pan. you should be able to see the pulleys on one side of the motor. The oil pan is the one near that.

use the right size socket or wrench to remove the oil drain plug.

let it drain for a few minutes or until it is a slow drip.

    replace the drain plug.

Now locate the oil filter and remove it. oil will come out as it is removed.

get the new filter out of its box and wipe a small amount of the used oil on the rubber seal at the threaded end of the filter.

thread the new filter on where the old one was being careful not to cross thread it.

thread it on till it touches the block and then only one half to one full turn after that. Do not torque it on.

slide drain pan out from under the car and lower it back down to the floor.

add 4 quarts of oil to the crank case and start the car for 5 seconds.

check oil level and add if needed and your done.

just take the used oil to a recycling center and that's it.

    Hope I have been helpful

Do all honda 1978 cb750's have the same oil filter?

They will be the same. Within the same year and model the letter will only refer to things like colour and fairings.Do all honda 1978 cb750's have the same oil filter?
    Yes to both questions.
    Maybe.

If its a SOHC they are all the same. ( K7, K8)

If its a DOHC it may be different.

I don't remember which year Honda switched from single to dual cam motors, there was some transition time when both were sold
Yup. and it's the same as the Kawasaki KZ1000J also.

Does not priming the oil filter effect the engine, when changing engine oil?

what do you mean priming putting oil in the filter before you put it on I never do and I've never had a problemDoes not priming the oil filter effect the engine, when changing engine oil?
If you can fill the filter and then install it, that's best. While the oil will get to the valvetrain quickly in summer, it will be seconds in the winter, even with synthetic oil. The purpose of priming the filter is to have oil get to the valvetrain ASAP. Side mounted filters can be primed, but only to less than half. Most filters have an ';anti-drain back'; valve to prevent oil starvation at startupDoes not priming the oil filter effect the engine, when changing engine oil?
i think this is another one of those things that makes a lot of sense, but in reality makes little difference. while it is true your engine will not be getting oil for a split second while the filter is filling up, it is also true that the bearings still have a layer of oil on them from when it ran last, i don't believe the engine is actualy starved, the time is so brief and i think there is enough oil already on the parts to bridge this gap.
No, but remember to top off the oil level after it runs a minute or 2, a lot of engines have the filter sideways so they can't be primed, the only time an oil system should be primed is after rebuild.
no, when you add oil to the motor it will flow into it anyway, you are alright. Oily time you may be concerned is on a larger motor, but on a typical car or truck you are OK.
It won't hurt your engine. On some cars such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L I6 it is impossible to prime it since the oil filter is mounted horizontal.
    no hurtie your engine

What's the best oil and filter for my new 07 Civic?

We have 600 miles on our 07 Civic and I've been debating on which oil/filter to put in it when the time comes for the first change. I've decided to do it myself because I don't like my vehicles in someone else's hands, especially new ones, and because Honda wanted 60 bucks for a synthetic oil change. I have decided on Mobile 1 5w-20 full synthetic and a Mobile 1 filter. OEM Honda filter is still a thought. If you think this is a good choice, bad choice, or if you have any comments, please let me know. I will be changing it about every 5,000 miles unless oil life % is low before then, but not likely it will be. Car is driven like it's gold and rarely brought up to 3k rpm. What's the best oil and filter for my new 07 Civic?
No need to run synthetic, especially if you are going to baby it. I had an 86 volvo 740 turbo. Turbos are very hard on oil and the engine. I ran nothing but regular Castrol oil and a good wix or purolater filter in it and sold it in 2005 with 210000 miles on it and a minor piston slap. That equates to 6935 days of continuous use and sometimes hard use and the motor never failed. Modern engines are well built and the rest of the car will wear out before the engine if you just do regular maintenance. I would save my money and just change the oil at 4kmiles unless you plan on keeping it for 30 years. What's the best oil and filter for my new 07 Civic?
Mobile 1 5W20 synthetic is fine, a Fram or Purolator oil filter will work good also.
It's just a Honda. Don't waste your money on synthetic or Mobil one filters. It's just not worth it.
The Mobil 1 is actually an excellent choice, if you are willing to spend that kind of money at each change. Personally, I have tried many kinds of oil and in all the hundreds of thousands of miles I've driven in the several vehicles I've owned (all traded in running perfectly) I've found that Castrol SynBlend or even just the GTX and WIX filters provide excellent lube for those on a budget.
Your plan is just fine. I was a mechanic for a Honda dealer for 15 years. Keep your $$ in your own hands!
You could probably use the cheaper filter when you are changing your filter that often. There is very little difference in the various filters, even the cheaper ones of the same brand. Frequency of your replacements is the key to making the engine last for many trouble free years. Also, if you are using a synthetic oil, the working life of a synth is much longer than a natural oil, as it is designed to not break down from the heat the way that natural oils do.

You could probably run it quite a bit longer, and since you are paying considerably more, you really should.
I have an O7. There was no mention that synthetics were mandatory(or needed).

Make sure the oil is stamped for severe conditions because ';babying the motor'; is severe. Short trips are also severe(as the engine really has not gotten warm yet to drive out the moisture that accumulates. Look at taxi's. Many of those cars are Xpolice cars. The motors in them are in great shape because the motor is hardly ever shut off....so no moisture build up(crud in the oil) and oil changes w/filter are performed like clockwork. Those cars get up to over 200,000 miles on the clock.

Buy a name brand oil and filter. Your Civic has an oil life monitor built in, but it is gear toward mileage with regular oil, not whether you have synthetic or not.

If you only drive the car to work and home again and it is close it is gonna take some time to build up the mileage. In that case, period of time should be the deciding factor.

    %26gt;%26gt; I changed my moms car oil on her Chev. using the odometer as the measuring tool -every 3000 miles. It was 11 months before she reached that distance, and she went to work everyday. M-F.%26lt;%26lt;
I would check the owners handbook and make sure your using the correct grade of oil. From memory a honda normally uses a 5w-30 or 10w-30 oil and use the genuine honda filter. Wrong oil, especially too lighter oil can lead to excess wear and engine problems

Also make sure that you wont void you warranty by doing it yourself. If its OK to service it yourself make sure you keep all the reciepts of the oil and filters incase something does go wrong with the engine, nothing worse than going back to the dealer with an engine problem and them saying you have no warranty cause you didnt meet the servicing requirements!

In NZ honda require services to be done every 10,000km (6000miles), once again check this with your dealer.

Does anybody know where the oil filter of a 2002 Saturn Vue is located?

should be on the passenger side of the engine.Crawl under the vehicle and look.I have heard some people say its easier to remove if you take off the plastice inner wheel cover and go in from the wheel well.Does anybody know where the oil filter of a 2002 Saturn Vue is located?
Well, both 4 and 6 cylinder engines have drop in filters. This means that it does not look like a conventional oil filter on the bottom of the engine. Instead, It is located probably more towards the top with a large plastic nut or housing. You remove the housing and you pull the paper filter out. It is very weird. I really don't know what side of the engine it would be located on. If you have the owners manual it might tell you.

What kind of Synthetic 10W-40 Oil and Oil Filter should I use? ?

I have a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R. The mileage of my 250R is around 2600 miles. I want to put synthetic oil in it because it is broken in. What is the best synthetic oil and best oil filter I can use for the Kawasaki Ninja 250R? ThanksWhat kind of Synthetic 10W-40 Oil and Oil Filter should I use? ?
BS on the ';use an oil made for motorcycles'; argument. There is no such thing as a ';motorcycle'; oil except what the oil's manufacturer wants it to be. Often it's just their automotive stuff in a different bottle and at a higher price. There are no standards. I repeat: there are no standards.

This whole thing about motorcycle oils is the biggest scam in motorcycling: Oil manufacturers want to sell you a more expensive product, your dealer makes a tidy profit from it, and magazines get lots of publicity revenue from recommending it.

Cycle Canada magazine suffered great financial losses when Bardhal pulled their advertisements when the magazine published a series of articles on lubricationg oil that told it like it is.

French magazine Moto Conso actually lab tested a bunch of oils. The very worst were the ';motorcycle'; oils ! the best was a store-brand synthetic.

For your bike Mobil-1, Amsoil, Red Line, etc... will all be more than ok.

BTW, you guys who will inevitably disagree with me: just read your owners' manuals. How many specify that you should use a ';motorcycle'; oil ? the closest is Harley-Davidson that recommends using their own brand... I will also point out that the ';gearbox'; argument is invalidated by the fact that most cars equipped with a manual transmission use 5w30 engine oil to lubricate it.

Personally, I've been using Mobil-1 in newer bikes and Shell Rotella in old ones for years, including in one high-mileage (156,000) Kawasaki Voyager. My HD will continue to get synthetic HD oil as long as it is under warranty, but after that it'll be Mobil-1 or Amsoil. What kind of Synthetic 10W-40 Oil and Oil Filter should I use? ?
Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil 10W40

    recommended filters:

    Amsoil

    Pure 1

    Mobil 1

    Napa-Wix

    or factory Kawasaki filter

    OIL FILTERS ';NOT'; TO USE

    Fram

when you use Amsoil the filter must have a much smaller micron filter media, and must have a larger capacity because using Amsoil will trap 4 times more dirt and impurities, AND its important to change the filter at every 3000 to 5000 miles, the Amsoil Oil will last above 10,000 miles, but the filter won't.

What i do is change my oil filter only at every 3000 miles and just add enough new Amsoil to make up for what I lost changing the filter, and I change the Amsoil Oil at 8000 miles
The best oil filter is the factory filter. Available at your dealer.

It doesn't matter which brand of oil - any of the well known brands will do - just get one made for motorcycles. Don't get hung up on the wrong things when it comes to maintenance. Many people go nuts over oil changes and have no clue when valve adjustments are due...
You can't go wrong using the OEM filter and recommended oil. It's more important that you check the level frequently, and change it before it gets contaminated. If you only ride 2500 miles a year, changing oil once a year in the fall is the best bet.
Here is a link to a long, but informative article on oil.

The author recommends Mobile Delvac 1 and Rotella T Synthetic.

The best oil filter is Purolator ';Pure One';.
For the oil use Amsoil. For the filter try getting a Wix

possibly a superseded part or just new way of numbering but nothing wrong with checking at the dealer just to be sure the wrong filter could ruin your engine in the long term

2001 is not worth the time and effort, not to mention the additional expense. Shop around you can do better.
You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.deep-ice.com

Do i really NOT have to change my engine oil or filter for 6000 miles if i'm using a full synthetic?

I have always changed my engine oil at or before 3000 miles.I have never used a full synthetic motor oil before.Do i really not have to change the oil or filter for 6000 miles if i'm using a full synthetic motor oil like ive heard?Do i really NOT have to change my engine oil or filter for 6000 miles if i'm using a full synthetic?
A lot of this is going to depend on your driving habits. As was previously mentioned, if you're really romping on the motor you might want to think about shorter intervals. On the other end of the spectrum is the little old lady that just drives her car to church and the grocery store once a week. The car never heats up and condensation mixes with the oil to form sludge.

I would try going to 5000 miles. You can get an oil analysis done for pretty cheap. Just stop by any big truck stop that services the big diesels and ask them. You might find that your oil is good to 25,000 miles doing that. Or you might find that you need to change it every 3000. Oil analysis will tell you about the actual properties of the oil. Using a generic marker like mileage or hours just doesn't do that.

As a side note...your oil might be good for 6000 miles or beyond, but I doubt your filter will be. The ';good'; ones that don't clog up as fast last that long because they don't filter as well. However, on most cars you can change the filter and only have to add maybe a quart of make-up fluid.Do i really NOT have to change my engine oil or filter for 6000 miles if i'm using a full synthetic?
    It's entirely up to you...

You don't HAVE to do anything...

I have a friend who has NEVER changed the oil or filter in his car, and he's rolling up on 70,000 miles...

you will get the best protection if you change both however, and filters are cheap, so why not change them while you're changing the oil anyway?
I would stick to about 5k miles for a synthetic oil change but the main thing is your driving habits. I know people who change their oil every 2k because they race. I know a few who drag race that change it after each time they go to the track.
