What is the brass-ringed hole called on the the oil tank, next 2 the oil filter, on an N-reg Vauxhall Corsa?

I recently bought a second hand Vauxhall Corsa and after a long drive of around 200 miles, the car developed a problem and shuddered to a halt. All the oil had drained and it looked on closer inspection to have drained from a small brass-ringed hole at the bottom right hand side of the oil tank (not the sump), near the oil filter. Having looked at a neighbour's M-reg Corsa it looks like what's missing is a transparent 'plug'...

Until I can ascertain WHAT is actually missing or get it towed to a garage (limited as I work shifts) and have a professional (expensive) look at it i'm gonna just have a lump of metal at the end of my drive...What is the brass-ringed hole called on the the oil tank, next 2 the oil filter, on an N-reg Vauxhall Corsa?

Oil filter attaches to what part of the engine?

the oil filter attaches to what part of the engine?

i have a leak btw the oil filter and the part where it attaches to in the engine, i have changed the filter many times but the leak still persists. what is the name of that part on the engineOil filter attaches to what part of the engine?
Oil filter adapter gasket or seal to the engine block. Some engine equipped with oil cooler and leak at the adapter is common.Oil filter attaches to what part of the engine?
If you're sure it's the oil filter that's leaking where it attaches to the mount, it's possible you have an old filter gasket stuck there. I know if I over tighten a filter the gasket sometimes gets left behind. That's an easy fix. Your problem is hard to diagnose since you haven't told us what brand, which engine, year, or model.
It bolts to the block. If need be, go ask at the part store, I don't exactly what it is called, but it on the block and it it bolted there.
Are you talking about you oil pressure sending unit?

How do I change an oil burner filter?

Most important, the first thing to do is turn off the oil supply valve. Put a catch pan under the filter, unscrew, remove, and replace. Turn on oil supply and you're good to go. My Dad had two different types. The newer one was spin on, like a car's. The older one was like the old time car's where a paper filter was inside a can that was reused. Just the paper filter was replaced. How do I change an oil burner filter?
And also bleed the air out of the filter by loosening the little screw on top to let some oil out the bleed hole before starting the burner. Also, turn the burner's emergency switch off to make sure it doesn't fire up while your servicing it. You can pour fresh fuel oil in the filter before reinstalling it if there's any problem bleeding the air out. There's a coarse filter screen integral to the injector pump sometimes, but it seldom needs cleaning if you have an external filter in the fuel line. The burner spray nozzle also acts as a filter and may need replacement if the burner's not running properly. Wear throw away surgical gloves to protect your hands from the smelly fuel oil.How do I change an oil burner filter?

because my car is taking alot of gasHow much do a real good tune up cost i have a 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight and do my car have a oil filter?
all engines have an oil filter and it depends on what you need tuned. if just routine maintenance not much even cheaper if you do it your self. but if it is major it can cost a pretty pennyHow much do a real good tune up cost i have a 1986 oldsmobile ninety-eight and do my car have a oil filter?
Yes your car has an oil filter.
you probably have a 3.8 in it. i have a 1988 olds delta 88 and it has a 3.8. yes it has a oil filter, its on the passenger side down by the crank. a tune-up depends on all your going to do. i tune mine myself. ill give you a ball park figure, you can give a complete tune-up, no more then ill say $75 or $80 , dont forget to clean out the throttle body, get a can of throttle body cleaner. you can save a bunch of money if you do it yourself or get a shadetree mech. good car, you have there.
a good tune up will cost you 150 change all the filters ,all the oils , plugs , timing belt tune up, . thats good you still got it
$150. I am guessing, though. You would have to price out the parts. And yes, your car has an oil filter.
A good tune-up will run about $300. and yes it does have an oil filter
200$ if only needing basic tune up stuff. carb tune, oil filter, plugs and wires, trans flush, radiator flush,.etc... and yes u have a oil filter

Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?

No it is not ok. By not changing your oil filter you do what is known as adding clean water to a really dirty bucket. When you add the new oil and start the car, the oil will be contaminated with the same gunk as the previous oil. This gunk usually builds up on the important parts of the engine and clogs up parts are need oil flow to keep the engine lubricated. Soon after due to the high temperatures and moving parts, pieces of metal do flake off and go into your oil. Some engines have drain plugs with magnets that collect the metal filings. But Again if you don't change your filter those filings tear right through the filter and no protection anymore to engine ( this means Kaboom later on to the engine). Not only that the gasket from the oil filter is not made to last long periods (so expect a leak on maybe your second or third time around using the same filter). Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?
It's ill advised. Oil filters are too small as it is these days. Why recirculate filthy oil through a loaded tiny oil filter. You seem to forget that oil filters have two internal valves. The anti-drain back and oil by-pass valves. When filters plug up the bypass valve opens and you get *no oil filtration at all. The anti-drain back valve holds pressureized oil to the oil pump from the time you shut the motor down till the motor starts up again.

Why go el-cheapo. Spend an extra $5.00 for an AC-Delco, NAPA ( made by Wix) Carquest (made by Wix) Motorcraft (made by Purolater) Denso, Purolator Gold by name, and Wix by name. They're all readly avalable. Is it okay to change your oil without changing your oil filter?
No. The filter is full of dirt, grime and gunk and cannot filter new oil effectively. It would be better to just change the filter and not the oil. Spend the extra $5 and put a new filter on the car.
for the price of a fiver or so u might aswell and to tell u the truth for another fiver id do an engine flush aswell its cheap enuff its the oil thats the sting.
Not Ok. Its like putting on a pair of clean pants that Mom took fresh out of the dryer for u to wear over a dirty pair of underware
You wont hurt anything, but you'll be waisting your money as all that pretty clean oil runs right through the dirty old filter you left on. Seriously, an oil filter cant cost more than $20. You probably paid more for the oil.
It's better than not changing your oil at all. But you really should change both at the same time for the best results.
yes it won't hurt anything but oil will leak out all over the place so be quick about it.
Not the best place to try to save money.

Would you recommend saving on toilet tissue by using both sides?
It won't hurt too much, but as filters are cheap, you really ought, you know.

    dr Antony
it will make your oil dirty quicker.

I agree with Polarbear - I did the same 1st to the dealer to check everything, the rest I do with a H.D. factory manual.Work on it yourself - you learn how it works and how to recognise any faults.
bart's answer about using non-Harley oil is bogus. If the dealer tells you you must use HD oil he has to provide it free of charge. refer him to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975
They also check and adjust the primary chain and drive belt. Not getting it done can void your warranty. That's something to remember if you are thinking of skipping it.
Its VERY important that the first service is done by a Harley Davidson Dealer and a factory trained mechanic and he must fill out and stamp the service card for the bike.

getting it serviced, or using off brand, non HD oil by a rice burner shop will void your warranty.

and you better be nice and friendly to your HD Dealer, don't moan and complain about the bill because that dealer can void your warranty for any reason even if you piss him off.
mostly wil just give it a shake down and see if anything is loose and will cost arm and a leg i did my own after knowing how much they wanted to check it out but you get a oil change and it check really just call and talk with them about it i didnt do mine and ive rode 80,000 miles stil doing fine been in shop twice in ten yrs that i couldnt fix it myself

You changed the oil because it was filthy right? So why would you want to run that nice clean oil back through a filthy filter? Change it, the engine you save may be your own.Do i need to change my oil filter on my motorcycle every oil change?
Don't be a cheapskate! Spend the extra $7 or $8 and change the filter!
You should, it's a filter so eventually it will fill with all of the debris.
What would be the point of changing the oil and not the filter? Would you wash your face with a cloth that you just wiped your but with?
No. It's recommended but you don't have to until every other oil change under non-dusty/extreme conditions.

Oil filters for bikes-if they are a cartridge type are pretty high capacity nowadays.

Usually the manual will recommend oil capacities when changing the filter and when NOT changing the filter.

Generally though-if you can afford to-change it with the oil.

As the old saying goes-Ya can change the oil %26amp; filter or ya can change your engine. The choice is yours.
    it would be highly recommended.
You probably should. The filter collects all the gunk and crap from the oil. If you only replace the oil, then all that stuff is still in the filter and can get back into the system.
sure, why wouldn't you?, do you want to mix dirty oil with new?.
You could manually clean it, but if your too lazy just change it every 2 or 3 oil changes

As for the filter, Motorcraft is of course, Ford's preferred filter however it is not mandatory to use. There are a number of many other brands of filters that will do just fine.

Fram, Motorcraft, Pennzoil, Delco, Napa, Carquest, Autozone, and many more. They're all perfectly acceptable.
Go to your local auto parts and any oil filter will be just fine. Don't buy into those crap about this brand is better than this talk because it's all a bunch of unproven facts.

You will never ever hear a story about a car broke down because he put a bad brand of oil filter such as Fram instead of a K%26amp;N.

So, go to autozone, pepboys, your local ford dealer (but more costly), or kragen and get the right oil filter for your car. It'll be just fine.
Fram sucks they're the worst ones to get. There's a big difference trust me just cause you don't see it doesn't mean it's not there.

The type of filter media, amount used ,bypass valves are all different by manufacturer. I read a study in the past where engineers that have taken various filters apart tested media used ect.

After reading the article some of the best were purolater, mobile, wix, motorcraft tested pretty good. but wasn't the best. One thing it did say was that fram was one of the worst. If fram was so good do you think it would be at wal-mart it's there because it's cheap.
yes your manual should tell you and id go either with ford genuine filter or a k and N,WIX etc.

but K and N is by far the best i have ever used. it has a nice bolt on the end for easy take off and on.

Go with a Ford filter or any major manufacturer of a product. Fram is one that is okay. The owners manual will tell you how much oil to add. Dont overdo it.
Look in your owners manual. If you don't have one look in the filter book at the parts store.

What's the best oil filter for a Honda Civic LX 2007?

Best filters are Wix. Mobil 1, Napa Gold, and a few others are also built by Wix. There are some places out on the web where they cut filters open and inspect teh differences from brand to brand. Fram is amongst the worst in burst strength tests, filtration capability, and media size. Delco also makes excellent filters that also test well. What's the best oil filter for a Honda Civic LX 2007?
Honda recommends their own brand of course. Certified mechanics and backyard mechanics do have their favorites, however any brand oil filter will get the job done properly if you change the oil at the interval recommended by Honda. None of the national brand oil filters will negate your warranty, so long as the filters and oil are changed at scheduled intervals. KEEP you records of filter and oil changes! They are invaluable in case of warranty work and valuable at vehicle resale. What's the best oil filter for a Honda Civic LX 2007?

    At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on ';auto repair manuals'; on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on ';Troubleshooting'; that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so ';in the dark.';

db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

04 Xterra 2wd V6 40000 miles, do i have any maintenance issues coming up? I do regular oil/filter changes?

I change my oil regularly, around 3000 miles. I also change my air filter every other oil change. I recently cleaned my throttle body with one of those spray type cleaners. I went to the ';stealership'; 3 months ago for a state inspection and they told me to buy one of their expensive maintenance package which included a whole bunch of checks. Should I pull the trigger or should I attempt to do them myself? Do I need to flush the coolant and tranny oil anytime soon? Maybe check the brake pads and shoes for wear? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks04 Xterra 2wd V6 40000 miles, do i have any maintenance issues coming up? I do regular oil/filter changes?
Stick to the manufacturers recommendations in the owners manual. Often dealers and fast lube places push for services that aren't needed. You don't need to change the air filter so often. Every 15-20k miles is more than adequate. You can drain the coolant and replace it but your vehicle may have a long life coolant installed which doesn't need changing until 5 years or 100k miles. You should rotate the tires every 6k miles. That allows you to check the brakes at the same times. At around 60k miles I would do a full tune up like the replacement of the fuel filter, plugs, wires etc.

Depends upon the motor in the car:

the 4 cyl. has the filter in the back of the motor on the passenger side basically in line with the right axle (as you basically hit it on the way up to reach the filter)

Most came with the 2.5 v6 motor which is front and center of the motor toward the bottom and is sort of hidden by a part of the y-pipe coming from the exhaust manifold/cat on the front side

Basically it's a job I recommend doing with the engine cold, as buring the arm is almost a given until you learn the trick.

Also if you have the v-6, get a pair of oil filter pliers, as a regular oil filter wrench, depending upon the design, is either difficult or impossible to get the oil filter off with.

Leaking o rings on the oil filter mount is a very common problem. You Jeep dealer will have a kit with the right sized O rings.

  • Where does the 2 small washer/gaskets that come with oil burner filter go? where are the vent screws?

They should be on the bottom. Vent screws are on the side hidden by the rubber that goes around it.

When you start a car is there oil in the filter?

is there a point to putting oil in the filter when you change the oil? When you start a car is there oil in the filter?
It's always preferable for there to be oil in the filter when you start a car's engine. Otherwise, the engine has no oil pressure for a short period of time. Filling a new filter with oil before you put it on helps prevent this, to a large degree.

If you don't put any oil in the filter when you put a new one on, then there is none until the oil pump fills it. Also, the oil galleys (the passages that feed the crank and cam bearings, and feed hydraulic lifters), tend to drain out when the filter is off.

Some filters are mounted horizontally, or even with the opening upside down, and it is not practical to fill them with oil before installation. In these cases, it is best to disable the ignition of the vehicle and crank the engine a little to fill the filter, before you start the engine.

Many oil filters also have a feature called an ';anti-drainback valve';, to prevent the filter from emptying every time the engine is turned off. It allows the oil to come in from the pump, but not go back out the other way. When you start a car is there oil in the filter?
Yes, there is always oil in the filter, it goes from the pan to the pump then to the filter then to the engine, if you install the filter empty then your oil pump has to fill the filter then start pumping it into your engine, this happens quickly but can still mean your engine can go without oil for a second or two.
Yes, there is oil in the filter, and it is a good idea to put oil in the filter before you install it. This ensures that oil gets to the critical parts of your engine quicker, and oil pressure is attained quicker. It can improve the longevity of your engine, even if only a little.
when you fill the filter before installing it helps the oil pump out. after you start it and shut it off some of the oil drains back into the oil pan but there,s enough left in the filter to start it.
yes there is always oil in the filter, with the one exception of,after and oil change for the first few seconds the filter is dry,but any other time ther is oil present
yes. put oil in the filter before installation. it gets oil flowing quicker and keeps everything running normally

I work on cars for a living and I know off the top of my head that a 2008 Fusion 4 - 2.3L used a CH9641 (Fram) oil filter which is a cartridge type filter or a PH9566 (also Fram) filter which is a spin-on and a 2008 Fusion V6-3.0L takes a PH2 (Fram again) filter which is a spin-on.

Theres nothin special to the filter. As long as you put the right one in...your good ta go.Does a Ford Fusion require a special oil filter?
If you have the 4 cylinder Fusion your filter could be a cartridge type or a spin on. If you have the V-6 (like I do) then you have a regular spin on filter. They carry the spin on's in most auto parts stores. I would suggest that you buy a quality filter (I would stay away from Fram). I prefer to use K%26amp;N's on my Fusion 80% of the time and I have a Bosch filter on my Fusion right now. I wouldn't use anything cheaper than the Motorcraft filter that the dealer will put on.Does a Ford Fusion require a special oil filter?
can buy one about anywhere and no nothing special that i know of.... five bucks maybe autozone will fix you up.... someone telling you it is is yanking your chain
    nope just a recommended fit.

Please help! It makes a noise like a low roar when I accelerate. I know it's not the muffler because it doesn't come from there (I've had a bad muffler before). What could it be? Should I take it back to where I had the oil and air filter changed?Just got my oil and air filter changed and now my 99 civic makes a noise?
im certain its the cause of the new air filter.Just got my oil and air filter changed and now my 99 civic makes a noise?
How often have you changed your air filter?

Sounds to me you have been driving around with a real dirty, clogged air filter. The new air filter flows air better and the sound you are hearing is from the intake. sorta sounds like cold air intakes but at a stock level.
you better check the oil to see if they filled it all the way.
I was also facing similar problem with my bike, one my friend suggested me one effective lubricant aditive called Musscle MT-10

has actualy taken care of my problem.

Musscle MT-10 reduces friction to agreat extent which result in less wear n' tear of bearings, less generation of heat, and also low maintenance cost.

Musscle MT-10 increases the productivity and life of the machine. It smoothens the vehicle as well as help to incrase overall average.

if you don't already know, useless things like this is waht drains people's pockets. such as trying to find unrealistic parts for a car. if there are oil filters out there that have the same thread and gasket (fram/stp) that fits, it would be just as useful and effective than trying to find stuff like that. don't believe me?then maybe you should call your local auto shop, they would say exactly what i said, and i'll say it again..';i told you so!'; otherwise, buy a foreign car or something, they have the least problems, thats why our domestics are killing our economy. your welcome!

did u use the right oil. if u used a lower viscosity then that could be your problem.
depends on what kind of vehicle you might need thicker oil check the manual to find out what weight oil to use, because it sounds like you valves are taping.
what kind of oil did you put maybe you put an oil that was to thin and your engine needs thicker ..
Something just doesn't seem to add up here....

Save the filthy oil filter until this is resolved..

    Good Luck on your find...
might have sludge build up in the port holes where the oil comes up into the heads try removing the valve covers and cleaning it out if that doesnt work then have the engine flushed your knocking is coming form the lifters not getting any oil

Where is the oil filter located on the 1992 buick regal?

Assuming that you are dealing with a 3.8L engine, it is going to be behind the passenger side front wheel. You will need to put your arm up and around the lower control arm. This isn't a fun one to do.Where is the oil filter located on the 1992 buick regal?
I believe it is at the front of the motor, you may have to remove a plastic shield to access it. If it's not there try looking on the side of the engine by the passenger side wheel. It's been a while since I've been under one but I'm pretty sure it's in one of those two places. Hope this helps.

What kind of oil filter does a 98 mercedes ml320 use?

i want to change the oil and i dont know what kind of oil filter i need to use and where is the oil drain plug can somone plz provide a picture of the pan and the oil filter thank you i would apreciate that so muchWhat kind of oil filter does a 98 mercedes ml320 use?
The drain plug is in the same location that pretty much every other manufacturer puts it...at the bottom of the engine oil pan.

As for the filter, it's a synthetic fibre filter ( holds up longer compared to conventional paper filters for the extended oil change intervals ). It's also not the conventional canister type of spin-on filter that most manufacturers use. Rather, it's a cartridge that slips directly on to the underside of the permanent plastic filter housing. You will need a special tool to remove that filter housing and don't forget to replace all the o-rings that come with the filter cartridge. Not doing so may result in oil leaks. What kind of oil filter does a 98 mercedes ml320 use?
just adding to JAYP, its mercedes part number 000 180 26 09, make sure you get a good one from the dealer or on the aftermarket by the OEM suppliers either Mann or Knecht-Mahle.

  • How to change oil filter?

What ';special'; tool do I need to change the oil filter on a 1996 Honda Prelude. How to change oil filter?
A filter wrench. A drain plug wrench and a catch pan to collect the used oil. After removing the used filter, check to be absolutely sure that the oil filter seal came off with the filter. I have one car that for some reason 4 times out of 5 the seal stays stuck to the adapter - which if not noticed and removed prior to installation of the new filter is Guaranteed to cause a sudden massive and total loss of the oil in the engine which will result in engine self destruction if it happens under load at highway speed! Clean off the adapter mounting surface, apply a film of oil to the seal of the new filter and attache it, tightening it hand tight - if difficult to get a good grip on the filter to tighten it, you can use the filter wrench to give it an extra 1/8 to 1/4 turn after it is snug. Remove the crankcase drain and remove the remaining dirty oil. When the draining oil trickles to a drip replace and moderately tighten the drain plug and refill the crankcase with the correct type and quantity of oil. Start the engine and verify that the engine generates normal oil pressure within 5 seconds of starting, and immediately look under the engine to be certain that the filter seal is good ( no cascade of oil running onto the ground ). Place the car back onto a level surface, turn the engine off for a few minutes and double check the oil level. How to change oil filter?
You may not need any special tool apart from a wrench or socket to get the drain plug off. For the filter itself, depending how tight it is. You can typically just use your hand. Or if it seems really tight, getting an oil filter wrench will help. That's the only ';special'; tool you may need.

Otherwise it's straight forward. I've pasted a general oil change link that may help.
a filter wrench to loosen the filter and a socket wrench to loosen the drain plug.
Your hand! I'd recommend wearing gloves. Wait till the filter is cool enough.

If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?

can you compare the price of the oil change and stuff like that with a bmw x5 with a ford windstar sel?If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?
My parents have a Windstar. The oil is scheduled to change every 3000 miles at $28 (filter incl). The X5 is every 15,000 at $115 (local dlr price) after the 4 yr/ 48k free maintenance, the X5 is cheaper $140 vs. $120. Since there is a huge savings over the first 48,000 miles, it will take the Ford a long time to break even!If i buy a BMW X5, how much expensive is it to change oil filter and things like that compared to a ford?
If you're buying a new BMW, ALL maintenance is included for free during the entire 4 year 50k mile warranty. Afterwards, it will be moderately expensive, expect at least $120-130 at the dealership, probably higher. Gotta pay to play.

But again, BMW gets you a year longer, and 14k extra miles on the warranty that Ford won't get. And in my opinion, you'll be treated better at the BMW dealer.
I own both a Ford Expedition EB, and a BMW X5. Both are out of factory warranty, so I pay for all maintenance. The Ford truck is cheaper (oil, filter, air filter, Coil Packs, breaks...) than the X5. Also, remember that the BMW often require special tools (which cost a lot) when fixing/replacing some parts as compared to the Ford.
It's cheaper, most oil filters for fords are 15-20 bucks, the bmw how ever looked anywhere from 5-15.
If you buy it new from the dealership, maintenance is free up to 100k miles.
    same thing

Telling use which engine (2.5L, 1.8T, TDI, V6) will get you more specific answers, but generally, you will find it once you remove the bottom cover. The torx screwdrivers are easy to find at hardware stores. Buy a cheap set that has all the different sizes in one handle (like a pocket knife), and you can get the job done easily (those pocket knife style things aren't ideal, but they will have the right size).

I've heard too many horror stories of places overfilling, not putting oil in, putting the wrong oil in, etc. Besides, there are endless places you can spend ';a few $$';, so you must be asking because you want to spend them somewhere other than waiting on a dealership to do something simple for you.
Access to the oil filter is from the bottom of the engine (looking up, of course).

You must 1st remove the bottom airflow tray. There are abt. 6 torx screws . This requires a special screwdriver. Most car manufacturers are going to these screws, I guess so we have to take it to their dealerships. Which isnt a bad thing, BTW.

In the past , I changed my own oil/filter. Now I take it to my local VW dealership. For just a few $$ , I'm in and out quickly. They do a top-notch job and guarantee the work.

And I dont get oily, sweaty any more.
On the gas engines, the filter is either external on the lower portion of the front side, or internally enclosed in the same area. On the Diesels, it is enclosed on the top front of the engine, under the cover.
A replaceable oil filter cartridge element is on the lower side of the engine!!

They are oil holes. They are there for pressure check and some had oil switches there. Yes you can plug them. If you don't all your oil will come out there. Some had a hole on the block there for a ball for clutch linkage, if yours has that it will bottom out and does not need to be plugged.

Most cars can change the filter with out changing the oil.
You will lose some oil but not a whole lot if you hurry.
Nearly all filters set-ups have the oil pumped through them by the oil pump, and you shouldn't lose any oil in the process. The oil is in the oil pan when the motor isn't running, so as long as your filter is above that point, the only oil spillage should be out of the filter. I am wondering what is wrong with the filter, but conceivably you could recover the oil from it as well.
go for it. the amount of oil lost would be what,s in the filter and maybe a splash more.
u shouldnt lose that much oil just by taking off the filter

who knows what the engineers are thinking when they design cars, but the location of the filter does not have anything to do with its efficiency. the oil is picked up from the bottom of the oil pan, then to the oil pump, then the oil is pushed through the oil filter at normal opperating system pressure (30-60psi). they just put the filter where it fits. some engineers are smarter than others. Can 1993 Buick Regal oil filter operate effectively on bottom of eng block like 1992 model instead of on back?

take the filter off and check to make sure that the old gasket is not stuck if it is then remove it you don`t need two of them that`s why it leeks
Without looking at it, it would be hard to know what's going on. You need to take it to a mechanic. Sorry :-(
maybe the shaft it screws onto is stripped. could have had the wrong filter on it at one time. damaging the shaft. double check the filter your trying to put on it might be the wrong one
Doug B is right. It's your oil pump pressure relief valve. Nothing else can cause this. I've had it happen to me. Pull your pan and get to the pump. It's probably full of sludge.

  • How do you properly dispose of the used oil and filter?

you take the filter withthe oil in it or the container that it is in and you take the items to a car part store like shamrock tell them that you have oil to dispose of and they will take it a recycle itHow do you properly dispose of the used oil and filter?
Stores like ';Kragen'; will usually take your used oil, I put my filter in a zip-loc bag and put it in the trash...my local trash pickup does not give ';other'; optionsHow do you properly dispose of the used oil and filter?
You can take the oil oil to an auto parts store like, Napa, Auto Zone, O'Reillys, Advanced Auto Parts, Checkers, Pep Boys, or any other major chain. I have not found any of them to charge for the disposal of used motor oil. As for the filter so of those places may not take the filter or you might have to pay for it. I do know places like Pep Boys make you sign a disposal record, just a name, address, phone number, and the amount of fluid disposed of.
Punch a hole in the filter and allow the oil to completely drain into a collection tray. Pour all the oil into an empty plastic jug and take it to an oil recycling center. Wrap the used oil filter in newspaper and a plastic bag, then toss into your trash.
Your home town should have a recycling site/center for such things. Check with your town hall, local newspaper, police departement, etc.
drop it off at your local auto parts store.
if you know of a place that changes the oil for you, go there and ask if they take it
You can take it to an oil changing location and they will charge you two dollars (should be two, otherwise they are overcharging you because they feel like it.) to properly dispose of it.

What kind of oil should I use in my 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 5w-30 or 10w-40 and what kind of oil filter?

I am going to change my oil in the truck and this is the first time I've done so...so not sure what to use..What kind of oil should I use in my 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 5w-30 or 10w-40 and what kind of oil filter?
Read your owner's manual. That is why the company supplies one. Your answer will be clearly stated in the manual. What kind of oil should I use in my 2005 Ford Explorer XLT 5w-30 or 10w-40 and what kind of oil filter?
Your owners manual will list the types of oil you can use and what temperature range they will hold up to. But 5W-30 is the normal year round oil. It should be printed on the oil cap as well. If the engine has worn engine parts such as worn lifters, you may want to go with 10W-30 as the thinner oil could cause the worn parts to stick. Had an old ford I accidentally put 5W-30 in, and one of my lifters got stuck. Quick fixed it with some engine restore from car quest and new oil.
Go with Castrol GTX 5-30 oil and either a Mobil 1 oil filter or a K%26amp;N Gold Oil Filter Model HP-2010, These are some of the few top of the line oil filters, you also wanna check your mileage on your car if it has passed the 75,000 mark go with 10-30 if not stay at 5-30 the more mileage on your car equalls thicker oil due to seals get worn out due to heat and driving conditions which require thicker lubrication to prevent heat and sludge breakdown.
5w20 oil, doesnt matter what brand, just dont go cheap. the filter i would use either napa progold, or a mobil 1 filter. oh, and depending on the motor it might take 6 quarts.
Look in your manual. You may need to put in 5w-20. But go with what the book says. The oil pump was designed to pump a certain type of oil. Anything thicker may damage the oil pump.
read ur owners manual it should tell u. since itsa big motor u should use 5w 30. but dont listen to tat if u put 5w30 oil in ur truck and its really should be 10w30 u will really mess up u motor. my advice lokk in your owners manuel

there is a plastic access panel. You might save yourself the effort for the first time and remove the wheel, after you see it you wont have to remove the wheel anymore. The panel can usually just be pushed away, after all these years half the small plastic christmas tree clips are gone anyways.Cannot locate oil filter on GM car, through the wheel well? 91 Buick Regal?

What kind of filter and oil should I use for 2002 passat with 94000 miles?

You didn't say what engine you have(4cyl. turbo, V6, or V8) so I can't tell you your filter, but a good choice for your engine oil is Amsoil AFL 5W-40: http://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/鈥?/a>

This is a synthetic oil that will allow you to go the full drain interval that VW recommends. It meets VW 502.00, required if you have the 4cyl. turbo (It also meets VW/Audi 505.01, not necessarily required for your car, but nice to know).

look up your filter at my Amsoil website: http://www.number1synthetic.com

What is the best way to filter the oil used from (lets say) fries and use it as BIO- Diesel ????

..........How efficient is it???What is the best way to filter the oil used from (lets say) fries and use it as BIO- Diesel ????
I believe that the process requires more than filtering. Clean cooking oil does not make bio-diesel.

There is a procedure that is fairly complicated but possible for the hobbyist to do.

Try doing a little search on it.

While you are at it, I should point out that you need a diesel engine to burn it, you can destroy a gasoline engine by putting the wrong stuff in the tank.

How do I change the oil filter on a 2003 Ford Ranger?

My guess for the reason you are asking, is that you have a Ranger with the 3.0L V6. Yes, I know it's not the easiest filter to access. Using a suitably sized oil filter wrench, finesse it onto the oil filter. LOOSEN the filter, until it can be removed the rest of the way by hand. Remove filter wrench. Remove the filter, by finessing the filter between the frame and the starter on the driver side of vehicle. With a suitable drain bucket placed beneath the area, let the filter drop into the bucket. Install new filter by routing it through EXACTLY the same way it was removed. If it's not the 3.0L V6, disregard this post. Hope this helps. With a oil filter wrenchHow do I change the oil filter on a 2003 Ford Ranger?
I mean this in only the respectful manner. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't try.

Now, for the long answer. You didn't provide enough information. There were I think 3 different motors available in the 2004 Ranger.

Mine has the 4.0 V6. The filter # is FL-820S and is most easily removed by an end cap wrench that can be driven with a 3/8'; ratchet and a long extension. Quite easy. And cheap.

Not knowing what motor you have and not being familiar with the other motor or motors available I can't be much more help.

First thing to do is check your owner's manual and get the basic info like filter number, oil specs, and capacity. It's all in there.

If you get beyond all those hurdles, there is one small detail that is overlooked. Before you screw the new filter on, coat the gasket with a light film of oil. It will make removal the next time much easier.

    Good luck to ya'.
and if it's the same 3.0 she's talking about.. there is a funnel you basically have to rip the filter quick past to get it down... just don't angle it or you will hit the starter and see nice sparks under the truck...

My recommendation is a filter pliers for that model... anything else can burn you if you like doing your oil changes hot..

the 2.3 and the 4.0 are both out in the open and just left loosen-right tighten . oil the base gasket with some fresh oil and tighten about 1 full turn after the filter gasket hits the base...

The 3.0 is the same ..just more fun with the exhaust and starter in the way (and seems to be the best selling of the rangers..sheez)
Jack up car, block at least 1 rear tire, put on jckstands, loosen old filter w/ filter wrench(buy @Wal Mart) or if you want to poorboy it use an old belt .Put belt thru buckle put around filter and tighten and turn anti clockwise.Be sure to wipe clean area around where old filter was and let ALL the old oil drain into a suitable container(do not put in trash, will not be environmentally cool)then on the new filter put a small amt. of oil all the way aroundgasket and HAND TIGHTEN ONLY !!REFILL w/ oil as per mfg. suggests as to grade,Then start engine(IDLE)and check for leaks. check dipstick 1 more time !! If little below full ok, if not add some more oil.NEVER OVERFILL CRANKCASE !! Some FORD cars and trucks take 41/2 qts not 5 !! Suggest letting car get up to operating temp. then proceed. REMEMBER OIL IS GONNA BE HOT !!!
Start by asking it what it wants to be. Encourage it so it makes positive steps towards that goal. But be realistic, an oil filter will likely never be a windshield. It just isn't made of the right stuff.
You unscrew it and let all the oil drip into a catch pan, then screw the new one in. It's easiest to do when you're changing the oil in the truck.
cant remember if the 2003 is done from under the hood or if it has the access door in the wheel welleither way it is very tricky

13mm wrench for the oil pan drain plug. The oil filter is a plastic canister type oil filter which needs to be removed carefully, so as not to damage the black plastic cover. Go to your Ford dealer parts department and purchase an oil filter (Ford part number FL-2017-B). Purchase five liters of your choice of engine oil of the grade 5W20. Fill up engine with 4.5 liters of engine oil and check level. Top up as necessary.Ford Escape 2007 Hybrid Oil Filter change?

A special 76 mm wrench is made to fit the black plastic cover, which must be removed to replace the oil filter element. Report Abuse

There is a drain plug on the oil pan at the bottom of motor. Not sure which you have 4 or 6 cyl. the oil filter is there somewhere, on the side mostly, proably behind something so you cant see it. it will be hard to unscrew but once it comes off put a light coat of new oil on the seal and replace put plug back in and refill with prpoer amount.

If you are not mechanically inclined, do not change your own oil. Simple as that. Take it to the dealership. It's only gonna cost about $30-$40. Your cars engine is the last thing you wanna skimp on so do not take it to those discount independent shops. If you end up paying less than $25.00 for an oil change you went wrong.Where is the cheapest yet a good automobile garage to change the oil and filter for my 1999 Pontiac?
the cheapest and best place to do it on a car like this is the garage outside your own home, or in your driveway.

this is an exceedingly easy job that even someone with little to no experience can do for half the cost or less than someone at one of these easy lube places can do it.

if you go to your local library, they probably even have the manual for this model in their automotive section, or at least a generic version that can take you through the steps:

    1) drain the old oil from the pan.

    2) unscrew and remove the old filter.

    3) screw on the new filter

    4) fill with the required amount of oil - usually 4 quarts

    that simple, that easy

30 minutes at most for a rank amateur on their first time.
Your personal garage would be the cheapest ( about $10.00 ). Most oil change places are fine including Kwik Kar. They do hundreds and hundreds of oil changes every day so if you hear that the drain plug was loose or they didn't put oil in my car it's probably the one out of 10,000 that was a human error ( it's gonna happen! ). With that many oil changes ( EVERY SINGLE DAY ) there's going to be mistakes. Best bet is to do it yourself that way there's nobody to blame and it's much cheaper.
I change my own oil and dispose of it, but I read the complaint and would advise you not to go there. Call around, talk to your friends. A lot of times someone has a favorite place they go and it may not cost too much.

After 3,000 miles; can I change the oil without changing my oil filter? Can the filter go another 3,000 miles?

The filter is the key to keep the contaminants out of your engine. You are better off changing the filter and leaving the oil. Filter should be changed with the oil. There are better filters than others that will give u more time for your money. the fact is your filter can stay on your car forever.....but that doesn't mean its filtering anything. After 3,000 miles; can I change the oil without changing my oil filter? Can the filter go another 3,000 miles?
Most vehicles now have a built in indicator that usually goes between 6,000 and 7,500 miles before it shows to change your oil. Changing at 3,000 miles is only recommended now if you have harsh driving conditions or habits like dirty, dusty conditions, racing, mainly stop and go driving, etc. The oil used now is tons better than in the past when the 3,000 was first recommended. I would however spend the added %2After 3,000 miles; can I change the oil without changing my oil filter? Can the filter go another 3,000 miles?

I can understand how people might think it doesn't make sense to run clean oil through a dirty filter. Those people are totally wrong - it makes great sense. The reason it doesn't make sense to them is that they don't design, sell, and arrange filtration equipment.

If you were an expert on filtration you'd be okay with it.

Now - does it matter, if you save $3? No, it doesn't matter. But it's an okay thing to do.

Well, I'll add one more thing - Bub says the filter keeps contaminants out of the oil, and so you would be better off with filtered used oil. This is not true. A filter (any filter) can only remove solids from the oil. That's all it's removing. There are lots of things accumulating in there that the filter can't remove, and some of those will reduce the oils ability to lubricate. That's important.

Again, lots of misinformation in this thread.
totally pointless ,waste of time,or maybe your using crap, cheap ,拢5 for 5litre oil..use decent stuff about 拢20-拢25..it,s just false economy to use so called ';bargain oil';..normal oil filters need changed about 8/10k miles ...again use decent oil %26amp; a decent oil filter or your car will be rattling all the way to the breakers yard....
You do not mention what the engine is. Normally the oil and filter will last at least 6000 miles before changing. On my Ford Focus it lasts through the whole year which is about 10000 miles.
I agree with ucantcme and bowtiess why is it so important to save

5 dls when a car is the second most costly investment you make

    Steve
Yes, you can. Most filters will go 6,000 or more.
I know of people who do this but in my opinion it makes no sense to run clean oil through a dirty filter
Use synthetic oil. It lasts longer.
Yes but it is a waste of good oil........

-simply unscrew the old filter (more oil comes out)

-put the drain plug back in (bolt in the motor)

the filter is located on the drivers side rear of the engine block.
it's located on the drivers side at the back of the motor...most likely it's orange and screws in to the block there. It is opposite of the starter..which is on the passenger side. If you need to ask this...I suggest you take it to the garage to have your oil changed.
i own a repair shop, all you have to do is look under it,you,ll see it it mounts up on the side of the engine,on a v-8 Chevy their easy to spot ,i think its on the passengers side of it towards the back,,good luck,i hope this help,s.
The oil filter on a Chevy V8 is located on the drivers side of the engine in the back and hangs down from the bottom almost equal to the height of the oil pan lip. possibly obscured by the exhaust manifold, it should be easily visible from underneath.

Are we living the old 70's Fram oil filter commercial?

In the commercial, a mechanic in grease stained overalls is standing in a junk yard next to a car with a burned out motor. Holding a Fram oil filter, the mechanic says,

    ';You can pay me now, or you can pay me later.';

The message being you can pay a small price to fix something early on, or an enormous price to fix it later. I knew this in my job, and all businesses leaders know this adage, so why are we in this mess? Are we living the old 70's Fram oil filter commercial?
Only the people living now are the ones voting though. The ones who will have to pay later, aren't living so they don't get votes.

The fact is that spending now to prevent rather than spending more later to cure is always going to be the harder argument to make. So, until we drag our political discourse out from the mud, we will always be a pay later society. Are we living the old 70's Fram oil filter commercial?
The 3 U.S. auto makers forgot how to design and build a car that U.S. consumers would buy. Yet, some feel that the tax payers should flip the tab for their inability to produce a product that isn't over priced and under performing of imports. But like the Fram commercial.....you can pay them now for a piece of crap, or you can pay them later for something worth buying. In the meantime, what model of car sits in your driveway?

    I rest my case.
yes, you can pay the UAW now or pay the UAW later since they own Obama and Pelosi
Exactly, and the average American who didn't know this was allowed to fail like they should. But in our country, the wealthy elites get handouts from the tax payers.
I for one am living in that exact commercial in a different dimension.
Because politicians want us to pay them now AND later.
im just glad that bailout worked so well.the company my brother works for, thier stock is at 8 bucks, august 1st it was 60.he wonders why he cant sleep at night..

Is there a cheap alternative air filter oil to use for K&N air filters?

Wanted to know if anyone knows of a cheap alternative oil to use on my K%26amp;N air filter? Is there a cheap alternative air filter oil to use for K%26amp;N air filters?
The K%26amp;N recharger kit that comes with the cleaner AND oil only costs $10 at most parts stores. And it's good for at least three cleanings.

There's really no reason to potentially destroy your $50 filter for lack of a $10 kit.Is there a cheap alternative air filter oil to use for K%26amp;N air filters?
Look at the oil other non-replaceable air filter manufacturers use. It should all be priced about the same. Some oils even come in lots of different colors for those interested. Spend the $$$$$ on the right oil, or u will be sorry. Your engine will puke.

How difficult is it to change oil and filter in 98 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl? Help?

Not too difficult, the hardest part is getting it high enough to get under. There is only about 5 inched of clearance under the front bumper. Put it on ramps and chock the wheels, or jack it up and use good solid jackstands on level ground. If you can get under it, the drain plug and filter are easy to get at.How difficult is it to change oil and filter in 98 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl? Help?
Not very hard at all. If you are at all mechanically inclined it should not take you more than 1/2 hour-45 minutes. How difficult is it to change oil and filter in 98 Chrysler Sebring 4 cyl? Help?
as long as you have room to get underneath, its very easy

I cant find the oil filter to my 2000 audi a4 quattro!?

Where is it located on the vehicle?I cant find the oil filter to my 2000 audi a4 quattro!?
What motor do you have? 1.8 4 cyl turbo or the V6?

I had a Passat 1.8L which is the same as the audi. My filter was more visible from the top of the engine on the drivers side - underneath the large black hose. I think the hose was the air intake hose. It was a messy oil change. I used to loosen it and take it out from the top. I just unscrewed the coolant reservoir so I could move a smaller black hose slightly to pull the filter out.

    Hope this helps!

Do i have to change my oil filter every time i change my oil?

i just started changing the oil of my car by myself like six months ago and i am wondering if i need to put a new filter. i put a new one last timeDo i have to change my oil filter every time i change my oil?
no you do not have to back in the day you changed the filter every other oil change but the oil filters are cheap these days and i change mine every time i change the oilDo i have to change my oil filter every time i change my oil?
yup yup, sure do, unless you use an oil filter that can go for more than 3000 miles, the next one up is 7500 miles, but there's also a mobile one oil filter that lasts for 15000 miles or one yr, your car might get screwed up, but at least you'll have a clean oil filter, ha ha, yea so change your oil every 3000 or 3 months whichever comes first, though synethic oil is 5-6000 miles and again there is the 15000 mile oil, called mobile extended performance, very nice stuff,
I ran a 2.0 dodge aries to 290 K, 3.0 ford windstar to 200K, 3.8 dodge Dakota to 307K. All have had very good running engines. I change oil 3000 miles and oil filter every other change. I really think changing the oil regularly has help keep these cars running so well.
well i've heard some people say you only have to evey other oil change but the oil is the blood of your engine and a filter isn't that expensive so why go cheap on something that filters the blood of the engine, i've always changed the filter at every oil change
YES! change the filter. if the oil is old and dirty, guess where all that dirt gets trapped? you guessed it: the filter! if he filter is dirty, it gets clogged, if it gets clogged, your engine gets angry
Yes very important to change that oil filter every time. Just like washing your feet, then putting your dirty socks back on.
Yeah...... You MUST change the filter everytime
    yes every time
oil and filters go together like bread and butter

  • How do i change the oil and filter on a 6.6l duramax chevy silverado?

are there any special precautions or methods i should know since its a diesel motor? or can i just do it as if i was changing the oil on a gas engine? How do i change the oil and filter on a 6.6l duramax chevy silverado?
Your oil change should be the same as with any other truck engine. The only difference will be that it will take a larger amount of oil. A few pointers though, the drain plug is set in such a way that there is a little pressure behind the oil when you first remove the plug. It will shoot out about 18'; when first opened but only for a split second. The filter sits at a steep angle, so don't try and pre fill. I found that in removal it helps to use a chisel and pop a hole in the old filter before removal. This seems to cut down on the big mess. Of course be sure you lube the gasket and don't over fill. Good Luck! How do i change the oil and filter on a 6.6l duramax chevy silverado?

The front exhaust pipe has to be removed in order to remove the oil filter cover. How do i change the oil filter in my yamaha 1100 custom motorcycle?
Here's the instructions for a v-star 1100 oil filter relocation kit:

    http://www.jardineproducts.com/product.d鈥?/a>

It shows how to remove the filter and should tell ya what ya need to know.

(Instead of installing the relocation kit just replace the filter, grease the o-rings, and reverse the disassembly procedure.)How do i change the oil filter in my yamaha 1100 custom motorcycle?
If you'll be doing this often, I'd highly recomend getting a relocation kit to save you from having to mess with removing the exhaust all the time. I have both the Jardine kit and the Phat Performance kit. I have problems with leaks on the Phat. Stick with the Jardine set-up.

Try to go to some gasoline station they offer cheep labor and just watch them when they work on your car
    About $15- 18
it really shouldnt be much. but why dont you call your usual garage and ask them?
Most places wont do it unless its special synthetic oil, because they also make money on selling oil, filters, by markup. Should be about 20 bucks
I would guesstimate $20 ..i guess it would depend on what part of the country you live in though.
What ever the shop charges for labor plus the disposal fees and taxes. IE our shop is at 98.00 an hour flat rate so a 1/2 hr oil change would be 49.00 in labor.

    call around ask.
Whatever the shop wants to charge you, if they are willing to do it. They will almost certainly charge you more for the labor then if you bought the oil and filter from them. Oil changes are a money-loser anyway and if you don't even buy the parts from the shop they have to charge more to make up the additional loss.
