I believe they are more in the middle towards the front of the vehicle. You can just look for it under the hood or depending on your size just crawl underneath.How can i find out what side of the engine the oil filter is located on a 1997 montero 4x4?
or, jack the car up and look UNDER the car. you cant usually see an oil filter looking at the top of the engine....


being that its a 4x4 and has FWD, its most likely not going to be on the bottom of the engine as it would typically be for a RWD car. Though some still are on the bottom. But given the year and the make and everything your engine is probably placed in the engine compartment as a FWD car set up, meaning the V shape of the engine is sideways, so [when doing something like spark plugs for instance] you have a front and a back, versus having the V facing you so that there is a right and left side [given you're standing in front of the car]





but if youre really too lazy to look under your car or you dont have a jack or something... just google it.
Go out, open the hood and LOOK for yourself!
