A coalescer filter is used to separate water droplets and mist from oil or oil derivatives like gas condenstate.
It consists generally of a vessel containing fibre glass elements and baffles through which the liquid mixture is passed. The water droplets and mist 'Coalesce' together into larger drops that fall to the bottom of the vessel where it flows underneath baffles into a water 'boot' section.
The water is generally level controlled and disposed of.
The dryer product will leave from the top of the vessel at the opposite end to the inlet and if necessary, will be further treated by a Molecular Sieve process (Generally, a specially prepared Alumina (Aluminium Oxide), to remove water of solubility from the product.
The coalescer system is maintained liquid-full at all times by having a system for venting off gases that build up.What is a coalscer filter how does it differ from a normal lube oil filter?
A coalescer filter is to remove 'free' liquid from a gaseous (air or other gas) stream. The free liquid is in mist or droplet form. The filter causes the liquid to coalesce (thus it's name) into larger droplets and channels them away from the gas stream to a point where they can be dumped from the filter housing. What is a coalscer filter how does it differ from a normal lube oil filter?
Your filter supplier can verify this, but I believe the purpose of the coalescer is to remove water from the oil.
