It should be OK. It is probably a good recommendation to say that you should change it as often as possible when doing regular oil changes. I change my oil every 3,000 mile intervals. I keep my oil filter changed so that my engine remains clean and everything. So yes, it would be good if you changed it, but another 3,000 miles shouldn't make much of a difference. So I wouldn't really worry to much about it. Good luck!Is it ok to not change my oil filter when i change my oil?
Automoble manufactures recommend changing oil and ';filter';, every 3000 miles, which I do. If you don't change the oil filter, you are leaving a quart of black dirty oil, that's in the filter. Some sludge in the old filter, could keep the clean oil from circulating. Report Abuse
No, I don't think It's okay! Report Abuse
The auto manufacturers suggest that you change your oil every 5k miles, so you could skip a change now and then. My question to you is, why risk it to save four bucks? Report Abuse
If your oil is dirty, then it is fair to assume that the oil filter is dirty also, and can no longer do its job. Report Abuse
i am very picky about my truck motor and would never think of not changing oil filters when i change the oil.whenever the oil starts to show any sign of being dirty i change the oil then and more often than the manufactures recommendation.you will be wise to do so yourself Report Abuse
my dad works on cars and he said no Report Abuse
Always change your oil filter when you change your oil. The purpose of the filter is to remove the carbon deposit buildup that accumulates in the oil from lubricating the piston shafts. It is IMPERATIVE that you change it when you change your oil, or you might as well not even change the oil. Report Abuse
yeah it's good for another 3000 miles but it's always a good thing to change your filter because of the fullness of the filter when you change it out because of the filter being to full with bad oil and metal slivers comming from your block...
Like everyone is saying, it shouldn't hurt. A lot of people say you only have to change the filter every other time but if you ask me, changing the oil and not the filter is like taking a dump and not wiping your a$$. Just my opinion
Many folks change the filter with every other oil change but I prefer to change the filter with every change. First, you get rid of all the dirty oil whereas if you don't change the filter, you leave about a pint of dirty oil in the engine. Spin-on filters have a relief valve built in them that opens if the filter gets clogged. Doesn't happen often but if your filter gets clogged and the relief valve opens, you will not be filtering the oil.
No need to drain all the oil if you change the filter later, just take it off and put the new one on and top up the engine oil.
Up to a point, but filters are cheap and you should do it regularly. But if you skip it now and then, it's not the end of the world, but don't be going 20,000 miles between filter changes.
changing the filter is even more important than the oil what sense does it make to run clean oil through a dirty filter think about it change both every 3000 to 3500 miles Now if you haven't started the car you can spin the old filter off and put the new one on if you have started the car you can still change the filter your just gonna lose about half a quart and get dirty but hand cleaner is cheaper than a new engine now get r done and unless these other guys are saying what I'm sayin don't listen
Sounds good and what you can do is when you do find that tool and have the new filter in hand - change it. What I've done at times is too then say drain all that new $$ oil out within the next 500 miles or so. If you don't think the oil was really sludgy or worse. The filter has dealt with most things just like my coffee filters. The thing is now you would be on second run and if the filter went to like 10,000 miles for imaginative purposes then your not your not getting much oil through. So if you want to just the filter do so when engine not hot and drain the $$ other oil outa there later and I use it in the car that dosn't have many miles left to it anyway, it works too me...
if you don't change the filter you might as well for get to use new oil for the filter takes out all the junk that hurts the motor ,if don't change the filter just add oil from recycle oil and just keep buying cars
older cars use to be you only change the oil filter every 2st time
my dad only changes his filter every 2st time and his car has been ok. but i change it every time cus it keeps the motor cleener
good luck
i own a repair shop, and actually the filter is the main part of it , i have seen people change the filter and go a little farther on the oil,but you have to change the filter on it so you might as well do this one over ,never leave the old filter on it this will clog up,and cause you to loose all your oil pressure ,and will cost you a good engine, but the filter is the most important part of it ,good luck i hope this help,s.
You might want to replace it when you can. Most cars can go well over 3,000 miles without a change although it is always recommended at 3,000. If it's a valuable car I'd change the filter, if not, I'm sure it really wouldn't make a difference.
It will be fine but i would'nt make a habit of doing this because you are really contaminating the fresh oil. And no you dont need to redrain the oil the most i would is just put on a new filter. But don't make it a habbit and you will be fine.
It wont hurt for the one time however I wouldn't make a habit of not changing the filter, they should be changed at the same time for sure.
With every other oil change, change the filter. You can change it every time, but it's not cost effective if you do the 3,000-5,000 oil change program.
I have to state the obvious??? Your oil filter takes micron sized flakes of metal and other debris out of your oil to help it get a long life. IF you dont change it, all of the stuff you are taking out of the oil just adds up in the filter and eventually the inner filter will rupture and all the trash will end up in the motor. I have seen cars that got so bad it clogged the oilpump tube and totally siezed the motor. Its all up to you to care for your investment. please dont waste a good car to save $4.00 on an oil filter
Wont hurt i havent changed my oil or filter in my car for 5 years and it still goes like new i dont waste money on stuff like that.
It is best to change oil and filter every 5000, but if you want to you can change filter every 10,000. Just make sure you keep the oil level between the lines.~
