Can the fitting which the oil filter is attached on a ford 289 be replaced? one on the engine I bought is bad.

the engine was stored without a filter and not only did water enter the oil passage to the pump, but also damaged the threads on the oil filter spin-on fitting.

What you are referring to is called a filter boss. They thread into the block, and can be replaced.





Use two nuts the same size and thread pitch as the filter boss, sandwich them together tight, and turn the one closest to the engine to remove the old filter boss. Install the new one the same way.
