when changing the oil filter i kept bumping the thing that the oil filter screw onto with the oil filter a few times before finally able to screw it on . if i need to replace it latrer on is it replaceable?Possible to damage the thing where the oil filter screws onto? possible to replace?
The threaded part you're talking about is pretty hardened steel, so the odds you damaged it are pretty slim. But if you do need to replace it, on most vehicles, there is a hex nut above that where it screws into the oil filter extension, or the engine block as the case may be, and you can replace just that part.Possible to damage the thing where the oil filter screws onto? possible to replace?
The filter is pretty flimsy compared to the receiver. Its really doubt full that it would have been damaged just from a bump or two.
If its leaking, its probably because the seal on the filter picked up some debris from the side of the block when it knocked around there. Either that or there wasn't oil on the seal ( I'm not assuming you didn't put oil on the filter gasket, I'm just saying if its leaking that could be one cause ).
Since engine parts are generally made of steel or iron, you don't have anything to worry about. If you had said that you bumped it with a sledgehammer, then I would worry. A lot of oil filter adapters are replaceable, best to ask at the dealer parts counter, they should be able to tell you.
Anything is replaceable on a car. It just depends on what you're gonna need to replace. On some cars, that piece is the oil cooler which is easy to replace. On others, who knows what you need to do. What kind of car is it?
yes, and if it is leaking oil you should definatly get it fixed!
