Does a hole in the oil filter cause a window in an engine if there is still oil in the engine?

the dealer said that a hole in my oil filter is what caused my piston and rod to shoot through my engine. but thing is my truck was still leaking oil after it got towed so there had to still be oil in my engine and there was no warning lights on my dash when the vehicle blew up if you need more information before you can help i will get you moreDoes a hole in the oil filter cause a window in an engine if there is still oil in the engine?
A hole in the filter would cause an instant loss of pressure, and the rod bearing very well could be the first thing to go. It could happen pretty fast.Does a hole in the oil filter cause a window in an engine if there is still oil in the engine?
An engine constantly pumps oil through it's system starting by sucking it up from the bottom and forcing it up through the pushrods and other holes at the top of the engine. While running at highway speeds, the motor probably sucked all of the oil up off the bottom end and since it was shooting out the hole in the filter and not being forced through the filter back into the engine, it caused the bearings in the crank and rods to get hot, resulting in what you had happen. When it died, oil from the top end was still draining down and that's probably what you saw.
In my opinion I think you would get some kind of low oil (or low pressure) indicator before the piston would go through the engine. BTW how big was this hole in the oil filter?
