You don't need a socket for the oil filter. It is like three or four inches across. You need a oil-filter wrench, which you can get at any parts store, which is a pretty useless tool for anything else, but very valuable if you need to take off a filter. If that isn't an option, you can also punch a phillips-head screwdriver through the filter and use that to loosen it. But that is tricky sometimes.


You don't need a wrench to tighten the new one, in fact, it would be bad. Just snug it firmly by hand. And fill it with oil first, because it will take a few seconds for the engine to fill it if it's empty, and the oil won't be going into the engine for that moment. It's easiest to do on a vetical one, but try even if its horizontal, because it will help. It's just messy. And spread a thin film of oil around the gasket ring, or it will stick to the engine when you take it off next time.What size socket do u need to change the oil filter cartridge?
easy to guess when you got the right tool it wil fit so buy a set if your going to be working on any car you need more than one tool or wrench but just going to a parts store they coul dtel you what you need by you asking they can set you up for any car repair
quite a large one, just try a number of sockets and see what fits. its probs about a 27mm maybe bit more or less depending on car;) every car is different.
