Could i use a 3 Inch oil filter wrench as a ring compressor to put pistons in a 18hp tractor motor?

I would just go to the local autoparts store and rent a ring compressor tool. Then return and get your money back. Just to be sure it's done right.Could i use a 3 Inch oil filter wrench as a ring compressor to put pistons in a 18hp tractor motor?

yea, if it fits, why not? they basically work very simillarly. if they can snugly hold the piston rings in the piston, it would work fine. i don't see what the problem would be. but if the wrench is too big or small, you'll have to get a proper ring compressor.
