Oil filter leak after i have changed oil?

i changed my oil and now its leaking from around the oil filter in a stream. if its the old oil filter gasket still on, how do i get it off? if it not that what else could it be. could i have cross threaded the threads. if so could it be re tapped. or maybe it even a problem with the filter, how could i tell. i need some help here. thanksOil filter leak after i have changed oil?
If you have cross threaded, it will be on the filter..the metal is not as tough. You could have left the old seal on, but I doubt it. Its more likely that you accidentally removed the gasket from the new one when unpacking it..if its neither of these, check that you have the right filter. There is also the possibility that you tightened it too much. You just need 1/4 of a turn or less after it catches. Good luck.Oil filter leak after i have changed oil?
make sure its tight.
spin new filter off, peel old gasket off if its there should be metal where gasket touches.make sure filter gasket is intact and spin back on.check oil and for leaks good luck.
Look on the old filter to see if the gasket is still on. I've seen filters slit on the seam as soon as you turn the key. It's not a cheapo, is it. If you crossed the filter, you can prolly get a deep socket and unscrew the tube and get a new one fro the dealer.
Its probably leaking because the old oil filter rubber is still on the filter mount, now you have double gaskets, which will not allow the filter to seat right. Just screw off the filter and scrab the old rubber gasket off. Then screw your filter back on and your good to go. (If that is not the problem, than it is possible that your new filter has a pin hole in it; it has happened to me b4.)
In my years of changing oil, I've never had a gasket from the oil filter become separated from the filter (although, it *could* happen). Double check to make sure you bought the right filter for your car, and that you screwed in on all the way, and properly.
make sure the old filter gasket came off with the oil filter.

try putting a new filter making sure it is not cross threaded.

if everything is fine your oil pump might be clogged.
like the others said its not offen that happens only a couple things to do check it to see if its the right one and retighten it ive never seen a seal come off either and ive been doing it 40 yrs... if it leaks then its loose or not the right one
The old gasket is still on. I've done that before - twice! I've since stopped drinking beer while working on the car.

Just remove your new filter, pop off the old filter gasket from the metal surface, clean, put more oil on the new gasket surface and put the new filter back on.

Clean drive way.

Easy.
it could be that you cross the threads...did it tighten up easily?...if it did....when ever you change the filter you always rub alittle oil on the gasket of the new filter so when you tighten it ....it wont crack and it makes a nice seal......it probably isnt tight enough or its cross threaded...try takin it off and checkin it out. double check that its the right size filter
